Hi guys, I have a problem.

My wii u gamepad fell on the wii u console, the console froze and I had to press the power button for 4 seconds. When it rebooted, I got error 160-0103. (I have CBHC)

Sometimes it runs CBHC but if I select an option it gets error 160-0103 or gets stuck on black screen loading with music. Is there any solution? (I have rednand and redand copy)

I assume it did not leave a dent anywhere.

Hits are mostly a trouble for things with either sensitive measuring items inside them or hard drives (which are called spinning rust for a reason). That said shock can do a number on things and there could have been some loose component (Wii Us are now several years old and usually made with less than glorious lead free nastiness, yours presumably being played and kept nice and hot during that).

I have not read of anything like this for the Wii U but with them not being attached to wired controllers then I do not expect to see as much as back when people could yank or trip on wires.
You can look up the error code if you want but it might not ultimately mean much other than that is the first thing to trouble the machine.

In this scenario some might try the machine in different orientations hoping that gravity is your friend for once. If it is then you can consider a simple reflow of things. Some would reflow regardless (tedious and possibly overkill but easier and possibly still quicker than finding the actual culprit, especially if we don't have any diagrams to test voltages and resistances for).

Do also check the fans spin -- a shock can be the last thing they need to have the nice dust and thin oil become sludge and finish the deal. Dents causing fans to stall is also why that was asked.

Hello, When the gamepad hit the console, it was updating a game, is posible that the bad update corrupted the nand? I disarmed the console and all is OK, and I tried to make pressure on the memories and ram to see if it has error, but hasnt result (sorry for bad english)

Seeing Wii U consoles go to a 160- error for no apparent reason (stored in working condition followed by "Problem with the system memory" years later and something maybe related to Smash Bros -- on low firmware if I remember correctly) I would not be too surprised if a software crash at the wrong time while the OS is writing to NAND could cause this. Might as well happen on power failure.
As far as I know the Wii U has virtually no error handling for the case that a part of the operating system is damaged (a less problematic variant of 160- error can also appear on disc read error but this is normally a scratched disc).

What I want to say: There doesn't need to be an actual hardware damage that can potentially be repaired with reflow or whatever electronics repair method. It can be hardware damage. But it can as well be software corruption as this error usually indicated.

I don't know where all updates go when they're being indexed, but I know they start in the import folder, which actually isn't a folder that appears. it's on the mlc and probably usb as well. that's where the download is placed. then, the update is added to the versions.bin, which I think is on the slc. I don't know if you can remove an update from it, but its purpose is to prevent lower updates from installing. you can hex it to accept lower. I think versions like v32 for example are in hex, but the number in the versions.bin is in decimal iirc, so you can use a converter to find the right number or put it as two 0's to be base. I don't know where else the stuff is sorted to, but I would think that system software corruption from a failed update would be a major problem for Nintendo in case say the power went out. that's one of the biggest problems with the wii u, inadequate protection from things like that.

do you have a backup of your mlc? I'm assuming that's where the problem is. you can decrypt it with the otp.bin. the backup tool for the wii u backs up the entirety of it including free space, but decrypting it will likely result in a much smaller size. mine is around 1GB, and I only installed brain age. however, it won't decrypt games afaik, just everything else. if you have the mlc.bin from before this issue happened, it should theoretically be fixable with a teensy++ 2.0.

mlc.img sounds like rednand. the mlc doesn't need to be corrected, but if the issue is with the slc.bin, you can correct its missing stuff with one of the nand tools. do you have an hdd plugged in? unplug it if you do, then see if the system boots up correctly. if not or it doesn't, you'll probably have to do a hardmod. if you can't do that, I'd buy a new system, because the cost of sending it to someone who can wouldn't be worth it. a wii u system by itself is probably like $60. the gamepad is the main expense.

I think that 160-0103 is usually an issue with loading something from the MLC. So teensy 2.0++ probably won't help at all. If you want to fix the MLC you only need to wire the emmc to SD reader. But I don't think that it will help since you describe it as random crashes (so it isn't just bad block because corruption during unexpected shutdown). I think that you broke something in your console and your best bet is to buy new one (buying only the console without the gamepad/charging cables is relatively cheap on ebay)

BTW you can still find teensy++ 2.0 in aliexpress. It is probably just compatible board but I would guess that it will still work. (but won't help in your case)

You got a good chance of buying a used one and asking the seller how often they used or even ask for a Pic of fw and telling them not to update

Speaking of PLaystation. I see Evilnat put out a beta for PS3 CFW 4.91.2 on the 22nd.

Don't really see the point in updating it tbh

Yea you right, I thought about updating my PS3 CFW to 4.91, but why really, everything plays fine now. I guess for people that have already updated past 4.9 it would be helpful.

Thats true, personally I don't play it online at all, in fact, I deleted all wifi details on it once I installed CFW, so it won't connect and auto-update itself
