Hello everyone, I hate to make myself a burden as soon as I walk in the room, but here I am.

I am trying to get my New 3DS XL to play Majora's Mask in German through using the LumaLocaleSwitch. Everything was going good until I actually opened the game and was hit with a big fat error message.

I will take a picture and upload it after I am done typing.

I had updated the DS before starting, I had made sure to download the newest versions of both Luma and LumaLocaleSwitch, I thought everything was going well, but I guess this is how most people end of making an account on this forum, right?

I hope someone can help me out or at least tell me who could help me out, worse case scenario I shrug my shoulders and play in English, but I don't want to brick my device while I don't know what I am doing with it.

Thank you for reading and I hope someone has/can find an answer, screenshot will be attached to the post!

First, hello and welcome to GBATemp!
but I guess this is how most people end of making an account on this forum, right?
correct. everybody here came for HALP but eventually stayed for the community
worse case scenario I shrug my shoulders and play in English, but I don't want to brick my device while I don't know what I am doing with it.
the arm11 error is very common so don't worry about "bricks".
that said, is MM you were trying to play not for your region, perhaps a EU ver since you mentioned not wanting to play in English, and that's why you used LumaLocaleSwitcher to be able to play it. first is check in fbi if the cia (game file) you installed is indeed for the EU. also "import seed" for it in fbi while connected to the internet. if you don't know how to import seed just look for the game under "titles" and press x or y i forget and click import seed. after you do that, make sure to install the latest game update if there's any.
after, boot into Luma config and select "game patching" and press start.
launch LumaLocaleSwitcher and select Majoras Mask and switch region. then see now if it boots, if not, uninstall and redownload the (cia) game from a different source preferably

Ya know I think that actually answers my question perfectly- I was not using a CIA file to open the game, I was just using my North American Cartridge, but still activating LumaLocaleSwitch on it. Since it is a NA version of the game, German literally just isn't loaded into it. Another commenter pointed out to me that LumaLocaleSwitch cannot swap to said language if said language is not on the card, so do I need to find a EUR version of MM3D to play it in German? Or is that not how the CIA files work at all?

Thanks for the warm welcome and the help :D

correct, only EU carts are multilingual

that is your only option. or you know, "obtain" the game file (cia) from the internet (just don't ask where as it's against the rules), google is literally your friend.
whether you feel that's piracy or not that's your call, but you already own the game and paid for it, you're technically not pirating but again that's up to you and how strong you feel about these things
Thanks for the warm welcome and the help :D
no problem

So the correct course of action would be to obtain the EU CIA files and import them using the FBI application?

yes you install cia (game) files with fbi, then run LumaLocaleSwitcher if it errors out (as sometimes it's not really needed)
well I bought an EU version, but am still getting the same crash without activating Luma. Do I need to deactivate it?

I assume you're talking about LumaLocaleSwitcher and not Luma3DS Menu
Do I need to deactivate it?
no, the titleids are different between regions, so it shouldn't affect it

Wdym you "reloaded the new downloads"?

Correct, LumaLocaleSwitcher
no, the titleids are different between regions, so it shouldn't affect it
turns out I didn't need to deactivate it, but I did need to enable all the settings in LumaLocaleSwitcher for this new download, so now I have both versions of MM set to EU and German, but only one version works. Hope that made sense.

Like the previous statement, I just needed to use the LocaleSwitcher to let the download know my Language and Region. Hope that answered what you were asking

no it doesn't make any sense to me. which is version is working and which isn't? and from what you said earlier the EU version you bought is a cartridge (not digital), and the german version is most likely a cia file you installed with fbi?

LumaLocaleSwitcher doesn't care what language or game you're trying to play, it just makes it possible to play out-of-region games on your device, that's it.

i know probably all that matters is that you got it working, but to me it's important to know what was the issue, and understand & figure out how to fix it.

I will do my best to explain, I obviously am new here and probably accidentally ended up at the right answer lol

Both versions of the game work; my NA copy I just had to revert back to NA region and English, and am assuming I can only change the language via manual.. The EUR version (download, not cartridge) I got is working in EUR region and German language using LumaLocaleSwitcher. I hope that answered what you were asking!

Yeah for me I was mostly just caring about being able to play the game in the desired language, I wish I could be more specific through text. I am willing to try and audio call sometime if I am not being specific enough or not answering your questions, I do want to help if I can.

Hey man,
I'm new to GBAtemp too. This doesn't affect your console in any way.
Just your CFW 3DS's way of saying "wow this is a LOTTA stuff to do" because the 3DS can't do everything of course.
Just restart the console and you'll be fine. Bricking is a rare occasion and won't come from a simple crash. You're all good.

(Edit: Didn't understand what you meant at first. Listen to the top comments guys.)
