Nearly 7 months after release, Gearbox is finally upping the BL2 level cap to 61. Added bonuses being a third playthrough and pearl weapons.

Bad news? Level cap increase will cost $5, "free" to season pass holders (like myself). 3rd playthrough will be free for all.

Also included with the free 3rd playthrough update...is...an update to the Black Market! More backpack storage. More bank storage. More ammo. Finally something to do with your 99 Eridium!

Yay for getting a third playthrough.

No yay for the cap increase being a cost. Wonder what's up with that if it's not actually linked to game content.

Dunno... The first level cap increase from BL1 was attached to a badass DLC but the second was free for all...

I welcome this, will make me return to the game again.

Not too sure (even tho i'm a season pass holder) about putting a price for the level cap, it leaves a sour taste of greed.

Well, I will get those levels "free" in the end. I'm more interested in the 6th character. unless it's cancelled or something.

This content comes out next week.

The new character comes out in May. New character is a psycho named Krieg. Melee based.

The fourth DLC campaign comes out in June. Revolves around Tiny Tina in some way...

It's a guy and his active skill is some sort of lifesteal. I'll stick to Gaige then.

Thanks though. I didn't know info already came out.

Uh... how does the level cap cost money? That makes no sense at all. Whatever, clearly it's just a way to scam people out of more money I guess. But I do not agree one bit with charging money for it.

The level cap increase is bundled with the new tier of gear. Which adds up to a fairly large chunk of game in the Borderlands universe.
If that's a scam, I got ripped off paying $5 per 2 hour chapter of Telltale's The Walking Dead...
or any DLC from a AAA game in the past two years for that matter...

I just bought Borderlands 2 and a season pass for $35 total, hell yeah (greenmangaming had a sale yesterday, it's over now). I only bought the pass 'cuz it was $15 for 3 DLC, I didn't know there was still new content coming out for it.

Was it the Knox one that had the level cap? I came into BL2 with all the DLC at once, after all of it had been done already. If so that was fine, since it was an expansion taking place after the main game with it's own story set, so of course you'd need to level more for it. Sort of like Diablo II's LoD expansion, and the WoW expansions adding higher tiers of stuff as they add more content to what would be the end of the game.

Which I hope is the case here, that the level cap increase isn't mostly standalone and has a reason you need it.

Knox raised the level cap by 11 and then there was a free update that went out which added 8 more levels.

The $5 DLC also adds another tier of rare gear to the game. It's completely up to the customer whether or not they want to purchase this. The enemies scale to your level so it's not like people who pay $5 will be gods or people who don't will get destroyed by enemies. Those who have spent months farming (or minutes duping) level 50 gear are able to either buy the DLC and spend more months farming (or minutes duping) level 61 gear or remain at 50 with their maxed out gear.

How many of today's sped gamers stick with a game for 7 months after release? At this point, the only people who should even care about a level cap increase are the ones who bought the season pass and have been waiting for the last of the content they paid for. People who cherry-picked the DLCs at full price have the choice of cherry-picking this one too.

This is no where near on par with the microtransactions or on-disc DLC of late, especially considering the amount of work that was required to even implement this level cap increase.

Finally more backpack storage. People have known about it being possible for ages because expanded backpacks worked, but the one of the updates made the game check and reset your backpack size if it was over the soft-cap on save/load, so people that edited their backpack size above the limit had to keep doing it each launch.
