Gaming Booting to Bootmii or Preloader

How is that done? I can't remember how to do it. My buddy may have bricked his wii. He gets a black screen on boot.

to boot preloader, turn on wii while holding the reset button.

For bootmii, add bootmii files to a compatable sd card and turn on the wii. Alternatively, if you haven't got a complete brick and can boot preloader, boot preloader and load the hombrew channel, then press the home button and select bootmii ios (or whatever the option is)

Have you installed bootmii as cios or boot2?

Also, how did the wii brick?

This is actually for a friend. He tried to upgrade his wii to v 4.2 but it gave him a message "upgrade failed". Now on boot he gets a black screen.

He says he had Bootmii installed as ios before the failed upgrade.

I suspect he had to format his card to load all the new goodies for the upgrade. So he likely does not have bootmii on the SD card anymore. I will tell him to download it again and place it on the card and see what gives.

That won't do any good. The files are created during the install of bootmii and are not part of the installation package. Someone here could upload their bootmii folder from their SD card and that SHOULD work.

thw wii is dead.
if he had prloader it is dead because of the 4.2 update.
and bootmii ios won't boot on startup only bootmii boot2 would,so your friend has good looking paperweight now.

if he has a nand backup w/ keys, DeadlyFoez (on this forum) should be able to fix it using his infectus chip (or u can learn to do it yourself)
