I'm trying to install FMCB to a friend's PS2 phat. Can I burn ULaunchELF to a retail PS2 disk and have it boot? (I assume it would work because the disk is pressed or whatever in a legit fashion.)

    No.
You can't add data to a retail disc.
You'll have to swap the game with a burned + patched copy of the same game.

Damn. Okay, thanks. Is it possible to install FMCB without any extra equipment?

Sure, find someone who'll install FMCB for you.

Is there a way to do it myself? I don't think we have any of the swappable retail disks on hand.

Unless you have Swap Magic discs, nope.
