Hi.

I have a 3DS 4.5 using Gateway. It has no emunand and I have never connected it to the internet. I wanted to know if it is possible to obtain the URLs of the server that the 3DS gets the updates from so they can be blocked locally and so the 3DS can't ever download them.

Is this possible?

Why not just leave the wifi switch off and not set up any wifi settings? That should be more than sufficient, unless you plan to take it with you, in which case router-based blocking wouldn't work anyway.

I would like to obtain the newest puzzle swap panels. I think they can only be obtained through spotpass. Therefore I would need to allow the 3DS to access the internet

I'm not sure if the data comes from (nus.cdn.c.shop.nintendowifi.net)?
Does anyone have any information about what is on this server?

I haven't been able to find anywhere that mentions that actual update location. I'll check out this link.
nus is the Nintendo Update Server, so I'd assume it's one of these two:
nus.cdn.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
nus.c.shop.nintendowifi.net

I asked 3DSGuy the same question a long time ago, his reply was;

Yes they are universal. But I gave you domain names starting with an "*", which means you block any subdomains too. But if for some reason your router or proxy server can't handle that kind syntax, exact domains would be:

The essentials:
Code:
nus.cdn.c.shop.nintendowifi.net (http) (Where the update content is hosted)
nus.c.shop.nintendowifi.net (https) (Where updates are checked)
cp3s-auth.c.shop.nintendowifi.net (https) (eShop)

Overkill (All https):
Code:
cp3s-auth.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
ecs.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
cp3s.cdn.nintendowifi.net
npdl.cdn.nintendowifi.net
cas.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
eou.cdn.nintendowifi.net
pls.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
npul.c.app.nintendowifi.net

If your url blocker requires a full path, I can't give you one because it'll be either https and you won't see a path, or http where the path will be different every update. You need something which can block domains.

I was able to get all my panels by updating with emunand. The update seems to attach itself to the emunand partiton on the SD (and not realnand) and only prompts for an update once (there is no nag for some reason, i guess emunand breaks it). To be safe, just make sure your realnand's internet settings are cleared and you're not near an attwifi hotspot.

Somebody correct me if my advice is wrong, but this reflects my experience.

Yes but what domains/ip to block from router?!I want to use eshop...
Either try it and see if you can get the desired result or pick your poison.
Nintendo doesn't exactly design the thing for you to block updates, and it makes perfect sense to use their eShop infrastructure for updates.
If you can fiddle the URLS until it works, great for you, but it's entirely possible that it's just not possible.
