    Hey guys

Just wondering if anyone can suggest a decent screen recorder that'll record 1080p and not take up all the GFX Processing power? Not necessarily 60fps, 30 would be fine too!

At the moment, I'm using Camtasia Studio 8, but it seems a little hungry...

I'm trying to Emulate say, NES or N64 Games and record on screen at the same time. The GFX usage claims to be about 5-10% when playing N64, but as soon as I start a capture with Camtasia, it shoots up to 95% and becomes really laggy...

Someone suggested ShadowPlay since I have an Nvidia GT705, BUT for the life of me I can't get the damn thing to install. could have been a problem with DirectX, but nooope, installed the latest and still nothing. Also read that I could be missing a 'Media Feature Pack' which I downloaded and on trying to install it just says the application is not applicable to your computer, which is just a lie! It's the right download hahaha

Anything will do, I'm not too picky as long as it's easy to use. Doesn't need to invlude an editing software since I've got Vegas Pro 12 for that. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks :)

Ohhhh~ , Camtasia uses A LOT of CPU. Get Bandicam, it works fine with everything and doesn't use much PC power.

GamerzHell9137 Thanks man, just wondering though since I've seen on some other videos, does it leave a watermark at the top of the screen? Or is it possible to remove it?

    Cheers!

Yup, has watermark. You can remove it by buying the software or *cough*pirate it*cough* .

Try OBS out. While it's meant for streaming, it does a better job than Camtasia at recording. It's just a little tricky to set up...

+1 for Bandicam, easily the best screen capture software for gaming.

FRAPS is a resource hog, and quite frankly just blows at everything it does.

I'd definitely recommend Open Broadcasting Software. Like it's been stated, it can be a little difficult to set up, but if you look up a tutorial it should be pretty easy. As long as you have a decent processor you're gonna be fine with it, and it's "Open", as in "Open source", so it's free and doesn't have a watermark

Thanks a lot for the suggestions guys! I've actually set up live streaming with OBS before, but since my internet is crappy (0.5 upload… What…) I couldn't use it to stream so deleted it.

Was difficult, didn't know that you could just record the screen with it! Maybe I just forgot :S Ah well, I'll stick with Bandicam for now, it seems to be alright. I wasn't so sure at first as Megaman 1 for NES was still laggy, but even with the recorder off it was which is odd, surely I shouldn't be getting lag in NES Emulation on an i5 2.9ghz Processor hahaha

Thanks again guys, always a pleasure!

Perhaps the examples are not good, but what I meant is that Open Source does not imply Free.

Yeah, that's true :P Typically if it's open source it also happens to be unpaid, but yeah, I should have made a better distinction there

If you have an Nvidia card Shadowplay does a pretty decent job!

    OBS is my favorite.
I own Bandicam but the piece of shit likes to crash on me and I haven't been able to figure out why.

I just use an Apowersoft Online screen recorder. It fits my needs, but if you're doing some intense GTA 5 high speed chases, I'd recommend Bandicam.

OBS is widely used ...and it's free.

Your best bet really, since you're not finding your way with ShadowPlay.

OBS also support Quicksync(Intel), NVENC(Nvidia) and a branch with AMD VCE(AMD/ATI).
So you can record with little to no impact using your GPU to do the job instead of the CPU.

EDIT: xSplit is a good streaming and recording software that support GPU encoding too, but is mostly paid. you can get the free version but has limitations.

I also second Shadowplay if you can actually get it to work. I hardly notice that it's even running, and I get 60fps from it when I was recording a Time Attack of Ys Oath for a friend.

Also, are you using the application from your nvidia disc or did you download it from the site? Not sure if it makes any difference, but I used the disc that came with my GTX 960 and it worked just fine after updating.
