According to the wii trackers, i've got a d2b drive with no cut pins. what would be the best chip for me? i was leaning towards wiikey, but after reading several people say how bad it was, i'm reconsidering. also, what exactly are the negative points in a wiikey compared to other chips?

thanks for all your help.

If you have a D2B with cut pins, I would simply go with the Wiikey as it is the most inexpensive solution.

There really are no negative points to a Wiikey. Works great!

i thought that the problem with the wiikey was possible lack of future support? or is that unlikely, based on it's large userbase?

what about yowii? is it a good modchip, compared to wiikey (especially in support)?

hi guys.

with the new WiiKey 2 out there. what you think is best for chipset GC2-D2B (no cut pins or missing pad).

vs D2Pro 9 v2/3 or anything else you think is better?

i am aiming on the solderless clip . since i have no exp with soldering

I'd get a Free-Clip and flash it with YAOSM (solderless and low cost).

yes, but doesn't yaosm need the programmer to update? i read that it has no dvd upgrade for the latest version... that's the main reason that i'm probably going with wiikey now...

If you get the Free clip you'll get a programmer with it. You may have to take the clip out to update it but its better than the WiiKey which will get no updates at all.

YAOSM is DVD upgradeable too... but as of right now, YAOSM 3.2 is perfectly stable. Everything works and works well. And like Swip said... Wiikey isn't getting any updates anyways. Unless you mean Wiikey2.

..and the Yowii chip that you were asking about can be flashed without opening your console.

i haven't been able to find a serial port on my computer. does this mean that i won't be able to do any future updates (for yaosm) which may require the programmer?

Do have an old computer laying around? Lots of those have serial ports...or you could put a Serial card in your computer

But... yeah you wouldn't be able to use a update that requires a programmer if you don't have a serial port.

no, no old computers unfortunately. guess my best bet is wiikey right now then since it's possible to update that...

if i program the free clip with the YAOSM

would i be able to re-program it with some other free firmware later down the road ? ( if i will come to that)

Yes, If there are any other firmwares that are compatible with it.

^^ ty

about YAOSM.

do i need to run reginfrii apps or any patcher to play my backups? or any backup will work (1:1,patched and such.. )

and will it work with the WII 3.3ver

thanks you for your time and help guys

couple of questions:
is it likely that yaosm will get a major update in the future that won't be dvd upgradeable? though i could install the serial port card, i'd rather not have to open up my system and take out the chip...

also, does d2pro9 have any advantages to wiikey in the case of a d2b drive?

and yes, i am looking at a solderless modchip no matter which one i buy.

You don't need to patch 'em, but you can if you want... they'll work either way. It works with 3.3

Every new feature from 3.2 onwards should be DVD-updatable.

is it possible that modchips will become obsolete in a few months time because of the backup launcher, or will nintendo just be able to patch that easily?
