Hi - first post and all.

I am looking to play backup games via an external hard drive - mostly guitar hero, racing games and a few kids games.

I loaded some stuff onto my Wii a while ago but it was a bit hit and miss with some games and performance was an issue with games like Need for Speed which I wanted to play in backup mode.

From what I hear it is easier to do now and I can also play films through the Wii now easily.

I am looking for some help on what I should do. My plan is to follow the steps in the top sticky, couple of questions though:

Can I start form scratch even though I have some stuff already on there? I had to do the Zelda thing to get it wortking before.
Online or Offilne - which is better?

I have a new 2Gb SD card which I have formatted ready for use. The one is my Wii just now is just a 256.

As long as you are below 4.2 it should be easy to do what you want.
Online is best, as well.
Follow the top stickies.

Not sure if its mentioned in those guides (don't think so), but you should look into MPlayer CE for playing video files when you're all done modding.

Isn't Geexbox better than Mplayer?

Ok will do.

Bit nervous about starting from scratch. I currently have version 3.2E and have the homebrew channel - it wil lbe a very old cios and backup launcher and wad manager in the homebrew channel. Can't get into the homebrew channel just now because it's asking to update

Do I need a gamecube controller?

No, a Wii remote should work.

Thanks for the help - been reading the NOOB guides but it is unclear if:

I should keep the Homebrew channel AS IS (I used the twighlight hack)
I should be updating my Wii version

any guidance is much appreciated - got my USB drive setup with backup games and movies - just need to get the right software into my homebrew channel (via my new SD card) and I should be Ok

Will continue to read through

Keep your homebrew channel as it is, unless the channel itself asks you to update.
DO NOT update your Wii, do it on your current guide.
Fist thing I recommend doing before the guide is installing cIOS rev14. (www.teknoconsolas.es/blogs/waninkoko)

Thanks - I will continue to read up and look into installing cIOS rev14 before following the guides.

One of the main questions I have is:

I have only performed the Twighlight hack so I do not need to do both the steps in the bannerbomb but should I install HackMii first and then move on from there?

Not working out as easy as that - installed Boot mi v2 - rebooting the device but it is not recognising my controller.

I have no GC controller as a backup!
