Hacking Backup Loader question

I have used the Twilight Hack to install the Homebrew channel,
through the homebrew channel i used wad installer to install cIOS_249.wad
which gave me the backup channel.

The Wii I'm using has 3.3v1 firmware and the backup channel just gives black screen when
trying to run backups. The tutorial i followed (Wii Softmodding for Dummies v2.2.2 said this was
all i had to do, but looking at other tutorials I think there may be other steps I'm missing

From what i understand I don't need to downgrade unless I want to install Starfall
I'm not sure if i need the cios_fix.wad file installed or if I just need to try different media
I've looked at atleast half a dozen tut's and none of them have all the same info and I'm not
sure if what i'm reading is the latest info,

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you have GC memory cards inserted in your wii, try the backup loader after removing the cards from the slots. If you followed the tutorials... It should work.
