Has anybody noticed that SSX Blur is the only game that doesn't work with the new IOS fix?

anyone testet Tiger Woods 09 All Play with the wiigator beta ?!

Only with v0.1 and that didn't work very well (hangs on loading)

Will do an extended test today night when I come home from work and evening school...

yeah, i knew that...wated to know if the NEW beta works better...nayway thanks for the info

I´d also like to know what enhancements are to expect with Metal Slug Anthology, Endless Ocean and finally No More Heroes
because actually these are the games i really had problems with besides Mario Kart which has been reported working by some beta testers.

I hope that with the new beta version Mario Strikker works.... Have some testers tested the game ???

It would be nice to great a new list with games that 100% works with the new beta version

Using the CIOS Fix that someone posted and using waninkoko's loader, Endless Ocean now works, load times aint too bad either.

i am totally confused that every1 wants to play strikers allthough it received no good reviews, mediocre @ best...

I just can't wait to get my hands on the 0.3 beta source....
Btw did someone say they got endless ocean to work, I cant get past the tutorial using wiigator 0.2, i tried increasing the dvd read buffer to twice the original size but it didn't work any better.

is there any benefit to updating NTSC Wii to 3.3U (from 3.2U)? since we may have to start afresh with the *impending* new stuff from WiiGator, i am thinking if i should update the Wii first.

Do you like football in a funny way??? I personally love that game, instead of waiting 'till the launcher get fixed i'm going to buy it after the the 20th of this month, (that's when I get paid, lol)

my first post (cuz I'd love to really try out this game without the headaches of hanging loading screens 70% of the time). PS, I'm a senior developer (not in this project, never coded for the wii before) but am very interested and excited about the work done here, well done everyone!

ok, back to my point about Mario Strikers Charged and the interest in this game:

look at this link and tell me again that "it received no good reviews, mediocre @ best"

Merriam-Webster Dictionary's definition of Mediocre: "of moderate or low quality, value, ability, or performance : ordinary , so-so".

Um, doesn't look like mediocre reviews to me. Aside from the typical wide range of review opinions, the average is 79% (I'd say mediocre is more like 30-50%; generally that word is used to describe something less than average, not very good, not even as good as average IMHO).

Now this should be fun, and I apologize that my first post isn't actually helpful or interesting and is basically off topic for this development-progress thread. Ok, everyone say "Welcome to the board dkelley, now stop being an obnoxious a**hole please". ;-)

heh heh

cheers :-)

EDIT: never mind LoL, so you actually think that mario sluggers is mediocre eh? again...

look here and see the scores. there are a few lower ones so the average is down, but I see several in the 70% to 80% range, and I personally LOVE that game. If 2k's baseball supported motion control for the main game I'd love it too, but it doesn't, so if I'm going to play on the wii with my wife/kids/friends then I'd rather have motion control thanks.

Both great games. I think sluggers isn't too popular with some hardcore baseball fans but it's a freakin blast to play with someone else.

and you got exactly that point wrong. the loading times a not due to the hardware limitation (3x drive speed). they are due to a badly coded loader and cios. the approach the loader works leads to those difficulties. wiigator is working with a new approach. loading the backups via on the fly patched system menu and not through a hacked together custom ios.

It's a hardware limitation.

If you replace the "DVD-ROM read" function with the "Wii disc read" function in the Custom DIP module you get NORMAL read speeds. So, the speed problem is in the DVD-ROM read function (DVD drive problem, well not really a problem... it is made to work in that way).

then a higher read cache should solve the problem? but that was already tried and it didn't work. and although limiting the drive to 3x by a modchip doesn't cause any problems. thats all i wanted to say. the long loading times are not mandatorily (spelled right?) caused by a 3x reading speed. thats all i wanted to say. it's absolutely clear to me that the 3x reading speed is a hardware limitation, no question about that. thats what i inferred from what marcans, wiigators and you have written in this thread and in the 3x drive speed thread. as i am no coder, this are only my personal conclusions.

i would never deny that. like i said before, i am no coder and i would never argue about that with someone who has deeper insights. i just wanted to get the point straight and understandable, for people without programming skills like me, that the loading times are not a problem of the 3x reading speed.

as far as i understand this and the 3x drive thread is the point, that it's only possible to read copied discs without a modchip, if they have the booktype dvd-rom. to read those you have to use the dvdread-command and, like you said, that leads to the slow speeds with your read-function.

So to sum it up, correct me if I'm wrong:

Read speed problem is a hardware limitation because it goes to 3x as soon as the DVD-ROM read command is given.
In the current backup-loaders, the DVD-ROM read command is given.
In Waninkoko's updated (private) loader, he uses no such command, instead he uses the Wii disc read command.
Which, in turn, lifts the limitation on read speed. (although it is still hardware-limited on DVD-ROMs)

Is there some cloaking involved here, like a piece of code that tells the wii 'DVD-ROM = Wii disc' before it checks which kind of disc is in?

The read speed problem is because of the DVD-ROM read command. Using the Wii disc read command my read function works perfect.

As i thought initially. So does this mean there is no way around it? Unless modifications are done on the DVD-ROM firmware...but that kind of defeats the purpose of the softmod right?

EDIT: this is long, sorry, but I'm trying to make sure I understand it :

If the different read function simply doesn't transfer the disc's data fast enough for wii games then it's because it was never intended for that purpose. data is basically random-read stuff, so lots of drive head movement, yea a big cache might help a tiny bit but ONLY if the drive is aware of a way to pre-load or pre-read the data from the correct location.

An example: streaming video over the web: it's a linear media, with good but fluctuating transfer rate (a common issue with streaming media over the web) caching it helps because when the transfer is quick the cache fills so you're prereading basically. when transfer slows down you are still viewing seamless video from the cache.

Games maks the call to read the video only when it's needed by the game, not before, and the disc's data isn't getting through the dvd reading function fast enough to provide gapless video for most games. Sucks, but without replacing the dvd-reader function with something better it seems unlikely to me that there will be a workaround.... however brilliant minds are at work and I don't know the wii's architecture or firmware at all so I could well be wrong.

I'd say that devs are trying to do is use disc channel (wii loader) rather than dvd reader function. If he can (I don't see how but you never know...) then that could theoretically do the trick. Wiigator and Waninkoko: sorry if I'm misunderstanding your goals, and good luck with it either way!

It would be great if the wii game reader function could be used instead of dvd reader function, but I'm certain there's a good reason why Waninkoko didn't use it in the first place.

It's probably because the game came out around the time waninkoko's loader leaked and all of the torrents for it had a high number of seeders making it easier to get. The game is crap, though. I regret buying it. On my next trip to Gamestop I am going to trade it for Battletoads. jk. I am probably going to trade it for Harvey Birdman.

What he is saying that regardless of speed (3x or 6x) the wii will load the game properly because of the "wii disc read" command. The softmod needs to use "DVD-ROM disc" read command.
