AFAIK apps without root don't have read access to the storage of other apps... so I'd suggest you do it manually, but most android devices mount below the directory that stores the app data, and file browsers would need root to view it too.

Oh i see...ehh ill figure something out another way i guess. ok thanks.

Edit: Never mind guys problem solved! I just went ahead and downloaded the app because i thought.."well what do i have to loose?" and it worked, backed up an app i had and saved to the sd card. :)

Glad to see that you had some success. Have you tried to restore the app?

So did that backup app actually give you back an apk file, or just the folder of the program data that you need to restore with it?

I'm curious how it gets around the limits.

Have a look for yourself if you want, this is an emulator i already had on my phone before the backup that now has its own apk after the backup. i dont think app backup & restore can save settings and data though. :/

That's another good one. ES File Explorer is great and free. I've never used the APK backup part of it, but it's my de-facto file browser on Android. It handles Dropbox, Samba/Windows shares, FTP, too.

It also supports Google Drive and has better navigation than the official app. I just wish it supported streaming videos from Google Drive instead of forcing you to download the video to your device.

You should play around with it. It does a ton of things. Look under MANAGER menu option. I like the SD Card Analyst, myself.

If you want to backup and do not want to root, you can always connect your phone to a computer and give adb backup a try. There are some home-made GUI apps that make use of adb that you can try too.

For example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36499906#post36499906 It's just a shell for running the command line + arguments so if you're into that stuff, you can just learn and do it yourself.
