so my Mac hdd just decided to corrupt itself and now it wont boot. (i can access the data through a recovery program... its all there)
ive taken it apart and backed up most of my important data (ie: /users//*) --ie Documents/Downloads/Desktop/etc
now i need to figure out what else i should have saved... anyone else know of any folders that might be elsewhere that you would generally save?

and secondly, where are the bookmarks for the OSX versions of Chrome and Firefox? anyone know? There should be a way to find them in the files somewhere, without booting from the drive.

Firefox
~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/

Chrome
~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/

By default most application-specific settings are stored in this folder. As per what else to backup, barring specific application almost everything you would want to backup would be in your home folder.
