Hacking Automatically go to Games dir

Okay, so I am R4 newbie, (I had a DS-X for a long time, but got sick of some of the problems.) Anyway, is there any way to make the system auto pick "games" at startup? Just curious. It seems like with all moonshell stuff it would be possible.

If you place all of the game in the root it will list all of your games when you click the option, press select and it will show your saves.

You could dump the R4's firmware, reverse engineer and hack it, then flash the R4 with your modified firmware.
Its just really difficult. =P

It wouldn't be that difficult... You wouldn't need to dump the firmware, you should just use the loader. You could decrypt it using R4crypt or a similar tool. You'd modify it and recrypt it. Then you'd rename it to _DS_MENU.DAT and put it on your SD card.

It's still hard, but it's a lot easier then what you propose

I don't think it'd even work. If you could program it like that, it'd still be impossible to flash the R4 AFAIK. If that's not the case a update for SDHC-compatibly would be possible too

Yeah, my wacky idea's only possible on the assumption that the chip's rewritable or you swap it out for a new one.

So does the .DAT actually control how the menus work?

Well there is somewhere a program called R4Decrypt.
It was something about that the _DS_MENU.dat is just a encrypted rom.

So yes you could hack the firmware yourself.
But remember you could make very bad things like brick your R4 by doing that.

Well, you could make it so that when you went to the moonshell button it'd boot a game instead of moonshell. You'd just need to delete moonshell.nds and replace it with a game, using the same name. You'd also need to be sure to rename the save to be moonshell.sav, but yeah.

But, you can't do that to more than a single game at a time.
