so ive been having trouble with this for a while
ive been trying to use aux cords to connect my 3ds to my laptop (HP 15) so i can have audio for snickerstream but it just wont work
so maybe its because my laptop just isnt compatible but i just wanted to try a last time

Do you ever use a microphone with the same cable? Does the microphone work?
no but ive used headphones and they worked

Open up the audio controller. make sure its registering that you are using a aux in for the audio
yea i did that and i made sure my speaker was my default playback

Well, it will probably be easier to figure out the problem using a microphone first instead of trying to figure out if your 3DS is not compatible for some reason or another.

If you don't have a proper microphone you can try yelling into your headphones instead. (No, really!)

If your laptop has a webcam with a microphone built in it could be that that input source is set as the default, try switching to aux input.

yea sorry for the misunderstanding, ive used headphones with a mic and the audio can output to the speakers just fine so idk why it doesn’t work with the 3ds

But did those headphones have a separate jack for the microphone and speakers that you were using with this cable? Or did you just plug those headphones directly into the laptop?

directly into the laptop
Well, then I already explained: you have no way of knowing if this is a problem with the 3DS and the cable you're using, or if the cable itself is a problem – though it's pretty unlikely that the 3DS is somehow incompatible with the cable.

You should probably find another cable or find another device to test the cable. A smartphone will probably do fine.
