Hacking Attempt to hack Gateway .sav's

It is called a hex editor, you can use 3DSExplorer to rip the individual save blobs from the save file to work on.

3DSExplorer: http://code.google.com/p/3dsexplorer/

I put some info on picking apart a zelda 3DS save a while back before 3DSExplorer was made.

So would you be interested in looking at the decrypted save files I posted from a 128k r4 save and a gateway .sav and seeing what you can deduce? I will have to try opening them both with the 3DSExplorer to see what that produces, but having someone look at them that has some familiarity with the layout of the 128k save might help us find a way to cut and paste one save into another...maybe with the 3dsexplorer?

Im all for single player cheating, but i think we can all agree that's not what the problem is, there are tons of hacked Pokemon online that BW2 is unenjoyable. There are no repercussions though they are not taken out of the community as you said currently which is sad. We all hope Nintendo has found some way to keep people offline with modified Pokemon, even if it has to be by banning them from the service. That's why there is alot of hate against this whole crack 3DS saves thing, people are scared it will ruin the game online. As for the transferred Pokemon from BW2 hopefully Nintendo can implement some way to identify which Pokemon have been modified and not allow them to be transferred that's if they take this seriously.

Here is thread when I picked at the zelda save data back then: http://gbatemp.net/threads/anatomy-of-the-zelda-save.304345/
With 3DSExplorer, it makes most of what is in that thread irrelevant. You will want to focus on figuring out how the ingame items are represented in the bin files.

3DSExplorer already allows you to extract individual save.bin files to work on. You will also be able to inject your own save bin. This is how you share your save with someone else. There are a few more things you gotta do with the save file that you have to do before you can use the save dump image.

You just need to figure out what your looking at in the individual bin files.

Thank you and I will take a look at it....question do you need to be able decrypt the save file to be able to use the 3DSExplorer to do this cut and pasting or can it be done on an ecrypted save file as well?

I hear you as I have no problem with single player cheating thru save modification and things like gameshark and actionreplay have given us some good 'consumer' level tools to do that in the past. Still I rarely do that as I like to play a game for the challenge and what is the fun in making it easier. I totally get what you are saying with the online cheating as that is a real pain in the arse on all platforms and thankfully Sony and M$ have agressively banned cheaters for big online titles like COD and Halo......I am guessing Nintendo is going to use Nand save in Pokemon like they did with AC because that makes it much harder to do save modifications in the name of cheating. I think it much harder to do bans for Nintendo until they get to a user account authentication system and not a machine level authentication like they currently use.

All I want to be able to do is backup and transport my own save games so that is why I wish more information would come out on how the new save game encryption works and someone would make some useful tools.

I think you will need to decrypt it before you do anything so you have a XOR key to re-encrypt the save when your done.

I figured as much....so we are still stuck with working with only older rom's save files until someone figures out and releases a tool to decrypt/encrypt the newer scheme Nintendo implemented after firmware 2.2.....which is just about everything released after 2011.
