It will be more similar to 3ds days of emuNAND. You'll be mostly able to update, but occasionally you'll need to wait for cfw to update as new items in the newer firmwares will need to be added/fixed in cfw. Though we'll likely have emuNAND backup and restore, so just like on 3ds best practice is to make an emuNAND backup before installing the update or just waiting until others test it.

There would be a lot of decrypting and re-encrypting involved, but that's not impossible.

It's already possible on 3ds. That's basically what a ctrnand transfer is. Along with that you would need the movable.sed and copy the SD card, but yeah that's already possible

That's what they're hoping to do yes. That's usually how you create emuNAND, by dumping sysNAND first.

Yes. They are also all slightly different distances between each other. It was part of an earlier design scheme that got modified and I couldn't be bothered to fix it. I like to think it's the small amount of chaos around the breaking of a closed system.
