but on topic, no firm protection in gateway mode afaik, so if updated in gateway mode it should have been normal to remove a9lh, as @Quantumcat said

This is why you should NEVER run Gateway on your sysNAND and honestly should stop using it.
Free CFWs have far better protection compared to Gateway.

Another good idea for users who insist on running Gateway: inject sudoku into dsdownloadplay or ds internet sysnand (better yet, a throwaway dsiware game). This gives update insurance since they can restore their nand with dgTool if they accidentely update. Your advice is really what they should do first though.

I'm honestly surprised they don't have firm protection, I would hope they do eventually or they will have more haters than they already have :P

They are still using A9LH V1. Gateway is always behind on the times compared to the free/open-source community.

We shouldnt exactly expect them to have firm protection anyway though. If you have their product, they expect you to use their software which means booting gateway mode emunand, which dosent exactly need firm protection to begin with

Nope unfortunately Gateway couldn't be bothered to protect the firms [where the a9lh is installed]; had you had a n3ds it would be bricked. You're going to need to dsiware/hardmod downgrade to at least 9.2 unless you injected a failsafe in ds-settings [which you most likely didn't]

I'm curious, how do you do this? Inject a hacked dsiware into DS settings? Or what?

Apparently you can, at least according to this post:

Though I have to admit, I am curious about this too. If this is indeed true, then a9lh just lost that "never lose cfw" exclusive feature.
This is only good For those who decided to keep menuhax->emunand setup though

Edit:
Just googled it, apparently sudokuhax is the dsi game that gets injected

So if I did a9lh when it first came about (about a year ago). Then Im still on v1... I use Luma to get into it.... can I safely do Download and PLay and all that from Emunand running Luma?

Just Update Your A9LH to CTRNAND build, and you will be find unless you're using GW like OP.

Gateway still uses emunand even with A9LH. Using GW in sysnand is dangerous because of that. if GW does have firm protection it's only on emunand where it has it's patches and such injected.

It seems crazy that they brought out an A9LH version and didn't bother with firm protection. Just lazy. Firm protection was added to CFWs here back when you still had to manually compile a .3dsx with your OTP to install A9LH.

Consider they still are using emunand even though they have A9LH though. Its fairly obvious they did not consider Sysnand protection. But yes I've sideloaded GW off Luma and it actually complains about using sysnand. Thats why I stopped using it as well.

It's silly, but they still only support emunand on a functional side.

This thread worries me now...

I have a N3DS with Luma and A9LH and I also still use Gateway. I am not sure if I have EmuNAND or not, but I boot into GW mode by pressing down on system boot, then press L+R+Select to boot into GW mode. Should I be worried/concerned about losing A9LH? Thoughts appreciated :)

Yep, using GW always has a chance of losing A9LH or brick unless you're using EmuNAND.
If you're not sure, just creating EmuNAND or abandon GW. 2 Choice offer. :D

How do I know if I have EmuNAND or not? I do know it says "GW" in front of System Firmware version when I go to System Settings in GW mode...
