Hacking Are save files region locked?

I have a save file for the JPN version of smash bros. The USA version will soon be released. Will my jpn save file work on the US version of the game?

I want to use my Fantasy Life EUR save onto my US one when it comes out.

Saves are per-rom, so will not work on a diferent rom, and a diferent region, sorry, you will have to create a new save game...

Well it all depends on the game, but so far the only game I'm aware of that had cross region compatible saves was pokemon x&y
