Laser for CD-players,Video Game devices,PC CD/DVD drives and similar listed in the Laser class rating 1.
Safe (due to low power or protective housing)

If they "wears out" the contrary is happening,the reading performance drops and gets worse.

If they are harmful ? i am not a Laser scientist but my personal Thoughts: NO.

Depends on what you mean by harmful.
For the eyes? Always.
For CDs? Potentially, but unlikely. If they somehow produce more heat, it might damage disks.

Not going to burn your skin though.

Well, I won't take it apart, turn on the console and look at the lens, and the laser are not emitted when in use.

I looked at gamecube lasers many times when trying to fix my gamecube and I'm fine but you shouldn't take it apart if you're scared

You should never look straight into a laser diode that has power on it.
No matter the weakness of the laser.

That being said, no, there's no way for a PS2 Slim laser to be harmful unless you're looking straight at the diode.
