I have a R4i (www.r4-v.com) kernel with 1:46, I tried to start a game on a nintendo XL but I get the error
APPLICATION halted

THX

look at the gold contacts on the bottom back of your R4i. if the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) is Yellow or Green you must use the 1.43 kernel

Does the error happen when you load the R4i from DSi XL menu, or when you load a game in R4i menu?

if you get this problem with every game you try, there is something wrong with your Kernel install.
try this process

backup your games, then:
1. Format MicroSD with SD Association Formatter software. Quick (ERASE OFF) setting will be fine.
2. Extract Kernel 1.46 to MicroSD card after the format is done.
3. Add a few games to test the R4i with. Don't put your whole collection yet. I suggest older games.
4. Safely Remove the MicroSD card from the adapter, put it in R4i, put in your XL and test it.

If you still get APPLICATION HALTED on each game you should try older Kernel 1.4 for red PCB (2009-9-15).
Always delete all Kernel files from MicroSD before replacing them.

If it still doesn't play any games after that your R4i might be mislabeled
