Gaming Anti-Virus Choices...

I have bought myself a new desktop, and it works like a charm! I only wish that it would get good anti-virus, so it doesn't end up like my last one. Now, I have heard that Microsoft Security Essentials is a very good, free anti-virus that picks up viruses in a new manner that is faster and more secure when compared to others. However, I have a trial of Norton on my desktop, and they are offering a 50% discount to subscribe to the real thing. (About 58 dollars after tax) However, I just didn't know what to get... And I'm not gonna download a keygen, or torrent, or anything like that, just because I want to be careful with this thing. Can I have some peoples' opinions?

Yeah, I agree on the Norton part. I never really trusted them, but I guess I thought they had grown over time. I guess not. I might check out Avast 5, it seems like a good anti. Thanks!

I used Nod32 for a long while but I reinstalled and never bothered to install it again, so I went with Microsoft Security Essentials. I really do like Nod32, so if you have the money or know where to get trial IDs+passwords, you can get that.

If you need free, and want something good...

AVIRA or AVG Free

If you wanted something pay or cracked...

Nod32 or Kaspersky

All four have high detection rates, AVIRA is particularly good, and my long time favorite is Nod32. I can emphatically recommend any of the above four, they're all good.

Norton is not really that bad .
I hated norton for a long time , but since version 2009 / 2010 it's become one of the fastest A/V

I Should get Avira for free , NOD32 for a paid one .
I have NOD32 Here and love it , i'm using it 2 years without ANY problem

But if i have a virus on my PC I alwas format my hard drive first and than reinstal windows .
Removing a virus with an a/v is just totaly worthless
There will be always some that the scanner doesn't detect .

I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials.

It installs super fast compared to AVG.

It's lighter and got better detection rates.

And the interface is much more simple and use aswell.

Been using AVG for over 3 years, but now has switched over to MSE.

NOD32 or BitDefender for a paid software. Avast 5 for a free solution. All 100x better than Norton

Avast 5 is awesome for free software. it's hands down the best free AV, and holds it's own against paid AV. Updates at least daily. If you were scared away by how awkward it was to use the old version (ie, the horrible UI) , the new version has a very slick interface now.

I also use Threatfire and Malwarebytes (both free) to supplement it.

For people in the UK who bank with Barclays, they give you Kapersky Internet Security 2010 entirely for free. They've done this for the last 4 versions of Kapersky!

MSE and common sense 2010 should work fine.
