Android android 2.2 vs 2.3

i just got my samsung captivate been using it furiously for the past day. i found i can update to 2.3, anyone experience both and notice an improvement?

i don't like to jump the gun, would like some opinions. obviously i don't know if anything is broke so don't give me the old adage to not "fix it". i'm new to android. i love the emulators btw! so glad i did not go to iphone.

let me know what you think about 2.2 vs 2.3...is there really a major difference, i just watched a tour and seen all the little stuff, doesn't look like its worthwhile.

Generally, version updates are worthwhile just because they usually include speed/performance tweaks. 2.3 mostly does that, supports a couple more audio/video codecs, overhauls the keyboard, and adds better VOIP and video chat support. There shouldn't be a downside; I've been using 2.3 on my phone (HTC Aria) since the nightly builds of CyanogenMod7 started and I've had pretty much no problems with it.

Id update If i were you.
Like if theres an update theres obviously improvements and as for the if it aint broke dont fix it thing, As this isnt a drastic update just a 2.# its not extremely significant in standard use.

Gingerbread (2.3) brought with it various inner tweaks to improve performance of the Android OS itself, as well as introduce some other minor features. More noticeable changes would include some UI tweaks, such as the keyboard, or text highlighting. Overall, Gingerbread will run somewhat faster than Froyo. Don't hesitate to update.

are the nightlies of cyanogen safe? there is only a nightly version available for my phone its a samsung captivate...im thinking i should just wait for a stable release version.

They're more unstable, and are more prone to crashing, but they should be safe nonetheless.

Yes, the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G (HTC Glacier) has an update to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread.
