is the converted ISO suppose to be way smaller then the original?

Like the orginal is 4.5gb and the wiibackuppatcher converts it to ~4.06gb

Yes... everyone I have patched with the loader has been a weebit smaller...4,185,870 KB to be exact on USA [NTSC] .ISO's.

And if just so happen to be in the same region as I am... I just reburned a few games at MAX w/Verification using IMGBurn 2.4.2.0 and the results were very noticable. It looked like 8x was my average burn speed and that was on a LITE-ON DVD/CD Writer. I also have 2 other drives and this one has shown the best results. So that is telling me that whoever said burning at the MAX speed your drive can do made a very true statement. (That's only my opinion)

The reason I was troubleshooting this is because...

1) Loading times are considerably slow causing video/audio to lag.
2) Game was crashing in result of resetting Wii Console.

I am still in the process of testing more of the backups and will keep whoever is interested posted in this thread or until it is locked.

When this thread is locked does that mean this mod will be working at its peak? That's a question for the staff.. or will this project still continue here?

Much appreciation to everyone participating in this forum with what they have been doing to keep this project alive. Especially the founding writers and a special thanks to DJTaz for compiling the best together and being very mature about this. You will know what I am talking about if you read the first threads about the fiascoWaninoko Leaked fiasco. And also thanks to the staff for putting up with us!

I'm really hoping someone continues to update this if Wiigator ever stops altogether. I mean, it's open source so anyone with Wii programing knowledge can pick this up.

If a disc is designed to be burned at a certain speed (such as 16x), then by all means it should be burned at that speed. I have burned at AUTO speed for every one of my discs onto normal Memorex 16x DVD-Rs, and they all work perfectly.

If you're skeptical about the rare errors however, just check the "Verify" box on ImgBurn to make sure everything went OK during the burn. All I'm saying is that if your disc can handle it, burn as high a speed that you can. Overall WITH verification, it will be much faster than burning at 2x, with the same result.

CORRECT.

QUOTE(Bananna @ Oct 4 2008, 05:25 PM) I use 16x Sony's, but I don't mind putting it on 2x because it only takes 14 minutes with verify on to burn it. Plus, it's better to be on the safe side.

Its not, "on the safe side" because the chance of errors is ALWAYS higher at lower speeds, (especially below 4x for DVD+/-R DVD5) media. Burning at the rated speed or possibly one speed lower is ALWAYS recommended with DVD media, but its fine to do what works for you, just know that this is not anecdotal, faster burning is going to be better for most people.

I believe most of the basic answers to questions has been answered by Seraph863 in another thread : http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=105670&st=1005

QUOTE(Seraph863 @ Oct 3 2008, 07:48 PM) Can we update the first page to better handle the "WTF Tihs thing iz b0rke!" questions? I'm mostly seeing people asking:

Q: Why is it Black and White?
A: Using Wan's loader, all games will be B&W unless you're using non-standard AV cables

Q: Will NTSC games work on my PAL Wii? (vice-versa)
A: You shouldn't need to RegionFree any games if you use WiiGator's loader. Just use the built-in region-force settings.

Q: Can I uninstall DVDx after is installed?
A: WTF? No!

Q: Is it normal for my patched ISO's to be smaller than the original?
A: Yes!

Q: Super Paper Mario freezes when I talk to the chick at Chapter 2-2. Fix it!
A: So, don't talk to her. Read the GameFAQ on how to pass the area instead.

And can we remove the damn compatible listings on the first post? Just link them to the wiki instead.

I feel that if we build a better FAQ, we will obviously reduce questions. Seeing how this thread is 68 pages long at the moment...

To answer your questions about what type dvd discs I'm burning they are Memorex DVD-R 16X 120 min 4.7 gb recordable.

About latest updates... I think that DJTaz is pretty much handling that area with his zip file.. it definately works if you follow his easy instructions... I got everything in it to work except for the Internet browser which is PAL and I think that maybe the problem.

Earlier tonight I tried to watch a DVD on my Wii using the Mplayer and since i had the DVDx advanced installed to ios 249 it wouldn't read my DVD movie... so I had to load DVDx and install with the first option and then reloaded the Mplayer and worked great... I thought I was doing something wrong or had really screwed up...but that's what it was...because when I went to go back and play a backup game nothing would load until I went back to the Advanced install on DVDx and used the IOS 249 again... I can see that being aggrevating...So maybe with a few tweaks there can be something a little more user friendly fo toggle the DVDx...

Did anyone else bump into that sort of situation? Because I read somewhere that people were getting green screens or green flashes and blank black screens, etc. and once I figured that out...it seemed to be ok to go back and forth... but what the hell do I know? This homebrew busted my cherry in that department..

Hope to try more games as soon as I ahem...get 'em....

I'm getting the error ret -4100 in the original dol and the error dvd id failed in the new one
I tried everything on this topic
maybe the problem is in the ISO's burn
I'm using the patch WiiBackupPatcher.exe, there is another one? Is this the best patcher?
it's because your dvd haven't the good booktype.
booktype to dvd-rom
If your ISO Or/AND your directory contain special or space characters before using the patch, you can get the error ret -4100.
the error ret -4100 is DRE.
I burned a second time with these settings (booktype dvd-rom) and the file's name was res.iso and were located into C:\iso
still the same error
hello,
it's not the directory to burn but the directory to patch that may be simple

Its open source which means anyone can do updates for this and release them - this site is pretty much the centre (proper english spelling of the word) of all thats happening with this stuff right now.

If i see updates i update my zip file and i put a date next to it - hasnt been much out in the last few days that i find improve the existing file , but as soon as i see one ill be adding and updating.

Hey Dudes!

At first, a big thanks to djtaz for the HowTo!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed works perfecty, but at Mario&Sonic @ the Olympic Games I get a greyscale picture...
I use a PAL Wii and Game.

Does anybody know how to solve that problem?

Greetings, N!mrod

Supercool330 made a new channel wad with an updated and great looking banner and it seems that he is working on an animated version as well.

sorry for the double post. i thought i am in a different thread.

Looks good... i never heard anyone with feedback on that toggling the dvdx to play DVDmovies or the Backups.. Is there someway that I can just install 2 DVDx's? One for the backup loader in IOS249 and the other dedicated for dvd movies?

Also if anyone needs the ntsc version of opera browser I can upload it somewhere...

Yea everything worked fine thanks to the packaged zip, the only thing is i had to download the ntsc version of internet browser...Thanks all

hello everyone , been following the progress of this project and i think it is quite impressive
and thanks to everyone who made it possible
biggrin.gif

just had one question , i don't have access to Wii ISOs atm (internet crap issues) , so was wondering , can gold pirated Wii discs be used directly ?
or do i need to rip them and patch them as well ? (a dime a dozen around here .. probably from china or something hehe)

I think you need to patch them in order for the DVDx that you have to use with the loader. From my understanding it sort of converts it to a codec or image that DVDx will read... So to answer your question I would have to say, NO!

The new backuploader.wad that Supercool worked nice too.. I think I can get used to that one for awhile until I learn how to compile the source with my own... but that may never happen either...hehe... I like testing this stuff.... I am still a bit paranoid about bricking my wii though... even though I personally haven't seen a report of this yet and let's hope not.

I am having no luck changing the booktype. I am using imgburn, i go to change book type and then NEC then Change for: Drive for DVD+R media....right? And should choose new setting: Dvd-rom....that is correct right? I then get failed, parameter value invalid. ;_; some one please helpppp

Edit: I found out i couldnt booktype unless i had the bitware patched version of my dvd drive to flash it with. Maybe this will help some one else if they have this problem.
