Hello world! Hope you enjoy this little Video Review about the GBA CART from Aliexpress that it have a real RTC, perfect for Pokemon games and also works with solar sensor.
Sadly, this is my First post here and I can't post the link video, but you can search on youtube with this exact name: "RTC Cartdrige From Aliexpress // Review & Test"
....

And here are some of my first impressions:

  • Good PCB quality.
  • You don't need patch patch the rom to make it save.
  • Fully compatible with GB FLASH, GBXCART, JOEY JR.
  • Very impressive that it's fully compatible with Burn2Slot and GBABF on the Nintendo DS.
  • The quality of the welding it's very good

Do these type of carts have slowdown issues like the Supercard SD? I assume they don't since the flash memory should be faster. If there are no slowdowns then it's a very interesting product, specially for that price.

They don't, I think the SuperCard is the only one that suffers slowdown.

Could you test battery life and whether it corrupts save games if you exit a game shortly after saving?
I made the test on the video I uploaded pm YouTube but test the battery life I don't think so, I don't have another to replace if this drain
Or any another method to test the battery life?

I think you can measure the battery drain at the SRAM itself, but you'd probably need Bennvenn's advice as to which pins to measure, and which math formula to use to calculate the drain. Sometimes if a battery drain is too high on SRAM, a simple resistor can help.

I bought one cart like this and it looks pretty good. The ROMs need patches if the game isn't SRAM. I tried loading Boktai: the sun is in your hand (EEPROM save type) and it was necessary to patch the ROM two times for it to save properly, one with GBATA and another with a custom patcher from Epicjoy. This is mentioned on the full description of the product. It's a simple procedure, but a bit annoying and it took me some time to figure all this out. Another thing is that when I tried trading on Boktai using the Epicjoy cartridge and a original one, the trade ended in error. I didn't try to trade between Pokemon games, but it should be the same.

It really isn't a true solar sensor. The Epicjoy cartridge has a light sensor, which can detect any kind of visible light, like a white LED lamp for example. It's a bit different from the original Boktai cartridges, which uses a specific Ultraviolet light sensor and can't detect other kinds of lights. However, as far as my field testing went, the cartridge can simulate the Boktai experience pretty well, even if it is a bit more sensitive than the original cartridge, around one or two bars of sunlight higher, which is ok. I got this product with the ideia of using it to play Boktai 3 translated with a solar sensor and I think it will work for this intent.

I was also wondering about the light sensor. I never played Boktai games but I may try them out in the future due to their unique gameplay.

When you say "a bit more sensitive", do you mean any kind of LED light in the room can overwhelm the sensor, or does it need to be a really bright light for the sensor to fully react?

Since I never played the games I don't know if constantly triggering the sensor would ruin the gameplay, on the other hand, the advantage of it being a generic light sensor is that you have more liberty for playing the game whenever and wherever you want.

I'd be tempted to wire a smol SMT LED to the cart with a smol momentary contact switch.

You should totally play the Boktai games. They’re really awesome, because the solar sensor isn’t just a gimmick, but a feature integrated in very interesting and varied mechanics through the gameplay.

About the light sensor on the Epicjoy cartridge, it isn’t very sensitive. For example, if you’re in an illuminated room, it won’t be triggered by the lights bulbs on the roof. To activate the sensor you would need to use a white led lantern and move it very close to the cartridge.

The original Boktai cartridge can be tricked with a lantern like that too, however it should be a black light one, because it only detects ultraviolet light.

To summarize that’s the main difference on the cartridges: Original Boktai cartridge can be tricked by ultraviolet light, but not by visible light. On the other hand, Epicjoy cartridge can be tricked by visible light, but not by ultraviolet light.

I’ve only noticed the sensitivity of the cartridge on real sunlight testing. As an example, if the original Boktai cartridge read 2 bars of light, the Epicjoy read 3 in the same place. The first Boktai game has a maximum of 8 bars of sunlight, so it isn’t an issue at all. It won't affect your gameplay experience overall.

You can’t trigger the light sensor on the Epicjoy cartridge by accident, so I think it can simulate the Boktai experience with a good degree of accuracy. I’ve just mentioned these things about the cartridge to highlight its differences to the original cartridge.

This looks cool!
I was wondering if this flashcard only works with Burn2Slot and GBABF with the DS or also with Wood r4 menu to load the ROMs?
I have a EZ flash V 3 in 1 and pressing "Y" alow me to load to NOR
