Hacking AK2's MicroSDHC reader

I plan on buying an AceKard 2 and a couple SDHC cards to go with it, but the cards I want to buy don't come with a reader and I don't already have one. I've heard a lot fo people say the reader that comes with the AK2 is crappy, should I pay a couple more dollars for a better one, or can I trust the one that it comes with not to corrupt my TF cards?

I've been using it until I get a better one, It's aight but not the greatest. Build quality is low (the entire thing is plastic).

It would probably be ok for a few loads but readers aren't very expensive so it is probably safer to spend $5/$10 on a better reader.

It's pretty nice. I've been using it quite furiously ever since i got it. Hasn't broken yet and write speed is pretty fast.

I've heard from 2 sources that the reader that comes with the AK2 teabags the one that comes with the Cyclo on launch, the M3 simply R4 and Edge.
oh and the DSTT one

gunglitcher from Youtube stated that it's "Pimpin!"

and Urza says its a reader that is a keeper

the reader is just a piece of plastic, i liked the R4 reader much better tbh. its worth the keep though, its quite useful.

my R4 reader was metal besides the edges. which were plastic. the AK2 reader is all plastic.

The material that the outer casing is made from has nothing to do with how well a card reader works. The main problem with cheap card readers is that there is no money in the manufacturing budget for quality control. The reader you get may work perfectly forever, it may work for a while then develop problems, it may not work at all, or it may intermittently cause data corruption while seeming to work correctly.

If you have a chronic problem with data corruption on your memory card you should consider getting a new reader.

and correct the shell casing has nothing to do with the quality.

the WHOLE thing is plastic, even the part you plug into your usb port.
the cyclo ds reader is brushed metal btw.

i dont like the card reader came w/ AK2. i tried several times, couldnt get my micro sd in it! and i push hard enough that it felt like breaking my micro sd and still couldnt get it in.. so i bought a tf card reader (almost similar w/ that of R4) and i'd never use the one coming w/ AK2 anymore..

The first Acekard2 that I ordered from DX had the original plastic card reader (left one)
The next Acekard2's that I ordered had a better card reader (right one).

I don't know if DX switched the readers or if Acekard decided to include another reader, but he new reader work a lot better than the old one.

that MIcroSDHC reader on the right one looks VERY similar (if not identical) to the one bundled w/ DSTT on DX...

i got a blue one that looks like the left one on the picture but is all plastic. dont even have a proper usb connector. and cant fit in most usb ports.

I got the transparent blue one too, it works and all but you have to force it a little in and out from the computer
