im running hiyacfw with unlaunch

Rename game folder. i.e. 4b533345-Shantae-Risky's Revenge to 4b533345
Put it to SD_Card\title\00030004\

NDS mode homebrew would be nice too
afaik you can't run DS homebrew from the DSi Menu because it expects to be run from a flashcart, not a DSi's nand. If you had the source code for the homebrew in question it might be possible to port it.

Just use DSiMenu++. It's so much easier than trying to do this.

I'm specifically trying to do POWDER, which is open source. Would it need actual modifications or just a recompile with newer tools and libs?

You'd have to modify it pretty heavily afaik. It's expecting to run from a flashcart, so you have to take the code and change it to be fine with reading from SD.
I have no idea how any of this really works, but some look into nds-bootstrap might help. or maybe it wouldn't and I have no idea what I'm talking about, which is more likely

Yeah, depending on the homebrew it requires more or less editing. None of it will be very heavy however. When simple DLDI reads are used I believe just recompiling it with the latest version of devKitPro should do the trick. Might need to make some slight changes in the makefile. You could look at homebrew that has already been converted to DSi mode homebrew and see what changed. (Probably little to nothing in source)

That sounds about what I remember hearing back when the DSi was first getting attention.
But what about the files for installing it to the DSi menu?
