Hacking about the Y cable

can you use the y cable in the 2 front usb slots on the wii-u? since i can't use the 2 back slots one is taken up by the lan cable connector.

also has anyone successfully used a wd mypassport 500gb without the y cable?

You have to use the upper usb slot in the back as data cable... you can use an extension cable for the 2nd end of the y cable to plug it into the front, but the data cable has to be plugged into the upper backside slot

Guess I'll ask the obvious: why not move the LAN adapter to the front?

i dont think it will work from the front. it's one of them usb adapters that a lan cable plugs into
