Hi guys, i'm looking for a LARGER HDD to replace my notebook ASUS's 500gb one, the i found this, 3000gb for 90 euro is like getting a free xmas gift :D :

2,5 USB 3.0 3TB 3000GB TOSHIBA CANVIO BASICS

well, 3 years ago i bought an Verbatim external HDD, i removed the case and i found a toshiba 2.5'' inside a verbatim hdd -_-!, then i used it to replace my ps4's stock one which probably uses SATA too.

the question is will i find an ordinary 2.5'' hdd inside this TOSHIBA CANVIO BASICS? has a SATA connector too?

i would take caution since most external drives nowadays are not simple 2.5 sata drives inside a enclosure with a converter to usb
specially the WD ones
nowadays the usb connector is built in the hdd board.. replacing the sata..
you should look for a real internal hdd without the enclosure, or search if that drive is indeed a sata drive inside, or a usb one

no, being a toshiba, very likely its a toshiba drive inside, since they also manufacter hdds.
but i am not sure if toshiba still picks the sata drives and bundle them with the usb converter enclosure, or did follow the "modern" route of putting the usb controller built in the hdd drive

i was saying that speciall the WD brand. stoped releasing hdds with sata connectors in an enclosure that converts to usb...

i see, anyway this is the HDD i was talking about, also both my ps4 and notebook share same SATA connector.

yes because sata is the standard and the normal interface to connect hard drives.
this usb bullshit come so companies can make the drives and sell you them cheaper and remove the option to use them as normal hdds

heres my final suggestion:
either go for a drive without the enclosure (called internal hdd in websites.)
or search online for external drive models that are confirmed to still come in the old fashioned normal sata drive
that drive you linked, extremely likely its one of the new ones that has the usb built in the drive. and not a normal sata hdd+usb converter.

one tip (which can't be reliable.) is to compare the portable drive versus a normal 2.5 hdd, if the thing is too small and short like a normal 2.5 hdd, extremly likely there is no room for a sata to usb converter.

never mind, i found a video on youtube that this HDD has usb interface soldered right on main board, so it's unuseable as internal one, GG well done toshiba!

The only external hdds Ive seen relatively recently with a usb-sata adapter is seagate 2tb drives.

But really Id consider looking at an ssd instead of a hdd.
