Hi, I have a N3DS XL with 10.3.

1. I have a Windows XP theme using menuhax. Should I remove using the menuhax manager in HBL?

2. How safe is downgrading to 9.2 on PlaiSysUpdater?

3. Should I wait until getting the OTP for arm9loaderhax is safe for A9LH? (especially for N3DS)

Edit: Fixed crappy wording (wording may be crappier)

1.Yes just to be safe

2.Plai is really only used for a9lh(brick masterrace)

3.yes

if you want to
but it is a pain to get it working
im not using it because i don't need all the fancy stuff

Personally I downgraded two 3ds. An o3ds from 10.3 to 9.2 with it and everything went fine.
While with the n3ds, plaisysupdater crashed while downgrading (9.6 to 9.2) and I had a partial downgrade that I solved rerunning the tool (to fix the mismatched titles).

So I think is a matter of chances and probably it works better with some firmware than others.

Regardless of what you're going to do regarding CFW/A9LH, you need to downgrade to 9.2. Go ahead and use PlaiSysUpdater to do so using the proper 9.2 files for your region. You can worry about which kind of CFW you're going to use after the downgrade is complete.

It's never fully safe. But there are safeguards. Just follow the guide very, very carefully.
And take your time. Completing the full A9LH tutorial from beginning to end will take many hours. Don't rush anything.

My bad wording probably made you think I was doing the full A9LH tutorial. I was actually going to downgrade to 9.2 and just use AuReiNand with MenuHax. I was going to wait for OTP Retrival to be safer and then join A9LH master race.

The full A9LH guide is constantly getting updated, it's getting a bit easier every time. But when it comes to safety, I think it won't get safer than it is now. Getting the OTP just is a somewhat risky part, because it involves another downgrade. This is necessarry because access to that OTP is blocked in higher firmwares. So unless a new software weakness in the security is found, you cannot get around that downgrade.

PLUS personally the downgrading to 9.2 part was the only one that troubled me (like I said, crash while downgrading). Plailect's guide is actually very clear and simple, but it requires time.

for me....

N3DSLL(A9LH, AuRei; originally 9.1): updated sysnand + 9.1 emunand
2DS-U(A9LH, AuRei; originally 8.1): updated sysnand
O3DS-J(A9LH, AuRei; originally 8.1): 9.2 sysnand + emunand
O3DSXL(A9LH, AuRei; originally 10.7): updated sysnand
Hyrule-N3DSXL(A9LH, Aurei; originally 9.9): updated sysnand

5 tries, 0 fail

the only error(partially downgrade) that shows up: downgrade n3dsxl from 9.9 to 9.2 ---------- re-downgrade on partial 9.2 firm fixed the problem.:D
other consoles are fine

edit: DO NOT HELP OTHERS, unless you know how to mod 3ds and your friends don't care about keeping the 3ds's motherboard untouched...

In order to do this I think you have to install browserhax and put a backup tool homebrew; then you can open this tool with the homebrew launcher and then backup your NAND and put it on a safe place.

Do you know how to do that?

Oh, and is there any way to backup sysnand on 10.3?
no..... downgrade from 9.2+ to 9.2 is safe(safe doesn't mean 100% rate, but you can always force update to 10.7 if you get a soft brick when dg to 9.2), you won't get a real brick.

you can't backup your nand w/o hardmod if you are on 9.3 or above.

I have installed A9LH following the guide on 2 O3DS and 2 N3DS with zero problems. One of my old ones had 30gigs worth of junk on it too. I honestly think people who bricked doing this weren't paying attention to the files they used or were using something bizzare like a gateway.
