You may have noticed from the screens, that 8BitDo have decided to add 2 d-pads instead of any analogue sticks, to keep the controllers as portable as possible.

The 8BitDo Lite releases October 30th and will cost around $25.

Maybe the d-pads are analog, so it would work like a rudimentary analog stick.

That's exactly how they work if it wasn't clear. The d-pads map to 8 directions on each analog. The separated buttons on the left map to d-pad. Just about every d-pad heavy game lets you use the left analog as well so its a decent setup for retro style games.

That's still digital. If I tell arduino to write LOW to A0, it will be zero. If i tell it HIGH it will go 1024 (or something, idk). So it's still digital, even if it's outputting analog.
Having on or off for 8 directions is still digital.

i'm assuming this is their response to the whole analog stick situation that is occurring to frequently -plus they can get sued if they don't fix the problems they just allowed to stack up until late. it's adorable i have to admit that, i really do want one now ;-;

Can you fix yr writing font:D

Any advantage of having duo d-pad as oppose to putting an analog in one of the d-pad's place? Or simply, what games is this good for?

I am not sure how this will work but this presumably makes it a fight stick after a fashion (all or nothing input wise, some might do a half pressure input but I don't know if this will) and that can work well for 2d style fighting games (or 3d ones that just spin around a bit rather than being a full arena like that arms game), can do OK for scrolling beat em ups (not see/heard of too many new ones but there could be some), can do OK for 2d platformers (some actually use the analogue and adjust speed/camera accordingly but some are move or don't), might do well for grid based tactics games (while it can be sorted and play well on a stick it seldom is), if things are emulated from old consoles then it will obviously match those. Might also do something for N64 games if c button emulation is otherwise tricky (whether you can hold this one handed with another controller I don't know).

So yeah quite possibly a limiting approach for the general case but potentially some upsides for quite a few things as well.
