Hardware 8700 in alien ware alpha r2

now i know it sounds crazy but im just wondering if it is possible. the sockets would work the only thing is that i hear it downclocks for the power supply to work. idk im just wondering since the tdp is 65w and if someone could get a 6700 non k working in there then theoretically everything should work and you can get extra cores

8700 won't work.. They changed some things. Which is why you need a brand new board rather than a bios update.

Nothing changed. It's an artificial limitation enforced by Intel (or at least Asus claims it is). If Intel weren't being pricks about it, then coffeelake would work on old boards (with a bios update).

Doesn't really change anything though, Intel say no, so you can't make the swap and need a new board.

Hm.. Was under the impression it was a hardware change. However, you're right. It's Intel's bullshit.. Is it really surprising though?
