Hacking 6.39 PRO-B7 (temporary) and psx/ps1

sweet ok i got one game to run that i never did before. and thanks for clearing things up that all of this psx games are a hit and miss atm. I'm new to all of this psp stuff. only started looking into it yesterday. I knows a few things about modding and pc use, lol can almost softmod a wii blindfold now.

is the temp light custom firmware and the perm custom firmware any difference involved in this. As of right now i have the temp firmware installed. When i bought the psp yesterday it was used and had oem 6.28 on it. i did update to 6.29. in the system settings it show that is is a g04 and also in the motherboard checker program. Since i do not know for sure, what firmware this was originally came with decided to use the light firmware.

if it's a 4g use the pro 620 for the perma patch available for all 1-5 gen models just down grade it using this downgrader and download the ofw 6.20 for psps 1000/2000/3000 ofw 6.20 put both in your psp/games folder run the downgrader from the xmb and follow the direction it gives you

There should be a permanent patch included in the latest version of 6.39 POPS. The only advantage is that you don't have to re-enable it every time you shut down (cold boot) your PSP.
But it's really not that hard to renable it anyway (Game -> PRO Fast Recovery).
It's up to you.

Aye, but he also said the default installed firmware was 6.28, if that is such a thing. Reading this, and I quote:

It's up to him, but I say to stay on the temporary version of 6.39. There's really no other gain to downgrading, and as someone who used permanent cfw's for the longest time (including

i never said my firmware was 6.28, it was 6.38 when i got the used psp so i have no idea what firmware was originally on it.

I'm pretty sure anything below 07g can be downgraded to 6.20
07g and 09g are the only one that can't use 6.20

If you have anything lower than an 07g place the 6.20 update in PSP/GAME/UPDATE.
If you have an 07g or an 09g, place the 6.35 update in PSP/GAME/UPDATE.

some1's downgrader has a brick protection thingy, it won't let you down grade past your original firmware once it detects your module, it'll give you a MD5 check fail, than it'll just boot you back to xmb.

I know this because I tried it.

I assume it was just a typo and you meant 6.38 as 6.28 doesn't exist. If you have any idea and how old the PSP is (colour, markings) it may give you an indicator of what firmware it was installed with. You could always try to downgrade but as I understand it, you may run the risk of bricking your psp.

It's also a good idea to shut down (not putting it to sleep, slide the power switch for a few seconds) every once in a while to clear the RAM; you'll have to "re-install" 6.39 PRO again, but that's hardly a big deal. Sleep mode does also drain the battery overtime.

Anyway, did you get the nightly build up and running, with popsloader support?
Personally, I'm just going to wait until B8 or w/e comes out, with hopefully a more stable (and included) popsloader.

You guys are silly.

Use PSPIdent To tell you what Generation your PSP is.

OR EVEN SIMPLER -- look in System Settings>System Information and it'll say a "g" on it. if it's "5g" or lower, you have one that can be downgraded and permaflashed. ALSO if you're on 6.39 PRO-B8 you can permaflash that too; no need to downgrade. All PRO CFW offer the same features.

yes i got the pops working with the nightly build. only tested on one game though. but it works, never did before.

If the only disadvantage that temp/light firmware have over a perm firmware is that you have to re-enable it everyttime a cold boot, i'm fine with that.

Just a heads up: PRO-B8 is out with popsloader support. I would suggest picking that up instead of using the nightly builds.

might give it a week first to check out if everything is still working good with the pro-b8. (this is a temp firmware also to right)
when ready all i need to do is uninstall the pro-b7 and install pro-b8. This would have the pops plugins built in for psx support?

B8 needs to use the same POPSLoader plugin that was made for the nightly build. And as for installing, yeah pretty much.

the pro b8 is more stable then the nightly builds so yea un install the old one and install the newer one plus same psx compatibility
