I was thinking that Nintendo missed a great chance to make the battery on he new Switch units even better by increasing it's size a bit.

Looking at some phones with batteries =>5000 mah they have been around for quite some time and the battery size seems not to be an issue.

Has anyone tried to upgrade their Switch by replacing the battery with a larger capacity one? What would it take? Would any software hack be required to make it work? Would the Switch accept such change?

You must modify the switch detection of the battery as well, since it got like 3 partners listed. And if it doesn't detect one of them it will turn off. I don't remember where it was but I think it was in Prodinfo.
