EDIT: I worded it poorly.

If I Hykem's exploit ISN'T dropped tomorrow. I'll try and finish it. Now that I can switch my ID to kernel and mii maker, I have the appropriate accesses needed, but I think why its still failing is mvplayer.rpl doesn't have FS addresses in its import table, so none of the File System stuff is patched..which is why its failing on either on loading Mii Maker or during the install. Of course this is all pure speculation based on staring at code and lots of screen hangs that tell little to nothing about whats going on.

Don't worry, Hykem has stated that his exploit will be compatible with 5.5.1.
Just remember to block updates from now on.
