Took me a few more tries but I finally got it working. It also seems that if you go into the System Settings, the GameCube controller no longer works.

That's because System Settings reloads the OSDriver, so anything that was hooked, that being GC-to-Pad in this case, no longer works afterward.

That's because the kernel gets resetted when entering system settings. That's why the kernel exploits load the system settings if race attack fails
