If you've got the money, buy a logitech 5.1. They make great quality speakers for a good price and last a very, very long time, even when you use them every day.

I bought the Logitech Z-640 series back in 2004, they lasted 5 years and I was still able to sell them for a nice chunk. You can still buy them used for less than $80 on Amazon.

I got these and I love them. They produce very clear sound and are perfect for about everything. (music, movies and games) [IMG]

the Z-5500 price is competitive with the one you listed

its one of their lowest end 5.1 systems

    I'm after a low-to-mid-range 5.1 speaker system.

"...probably one of their most popular *lower end* 5.1 systems."

I don't know much about logitech's audio systems but Sony seems to do well. I've found that their mini hifis can do some damage to your ears. I recommend this one and as a bonus it has an iPod hook up and is 200 USD less than what you're are planning on spending.

Once again, he wants a surround sound speaker system, not a dvd home theater system.

I never said that. But why pay for a dvd player when you don't want a dvd player? Waste of money and space. [IMG]

the price is very competitive compared to similar systems without dvd players and not only that but it saves space, the receiver and dvd player are a combo and is fairy small compered to the huge receivers you causally see

But you'd save even more space and money by buying speakers without a dvd player. [IMG]

the speakers and sub are pretty much useless without a receiver of some sort

you need to buy it anyway, this is just a combo
