I have just found out about www.fon.com.
It's a community of people who share their wi-fi. The concept is interesting. You share your wi-fi at home so you don't have to pay for it when you are away from home.
You can buy their router "La Fonera" for 40$. They also have a promotion right now, 2$ for a 8db semi-directional antenna with the purchase of a router.
La Fonera has two SSIDs one private and one public.
If you want, you can also just buy the hardware and hack it with the excellent DD-WRT firmware.
