So i bought a gigaware usb to ethernet adapter to play ssb4 better online.

But when i go to settings and go to wired connections, it dosent identify that i have a adapter on.

Does that mean that only wii ethernet adapters work?

Any Ethernet that uses ASIX AX88772 chipset should work. All Ethernet that uses other chipset will not work.

The Nyko Wii ones work fine and I have had 0 issues with them on Wii or Wii U if anyone wants a 3rd party suggestion.

I purchased a Belkin USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter to originally use with an Android device, it currently works great on the Wii U also.

The chipset might well have changed now, however the one I have works great.
