You can certainly use an extension cable. You'll have to fight with the spring loaded mechanism but they do work. I disassembled both my switch v2 and oled dock to remove the springs as I wanted to use them with an extension permanently. Haven't done so with the S2 dock yet but might.I haven't yet used the NS2 dock as my Switch 2 has a case so it's too thick to fit in the dock. I don't suppose a USB-C extension cable would sort of fix it? It would be messy with cables and whatever.
Can you get video out from the top USB-C port of the Switch 2 or just the bottom port? You can certainly use an extension cable. You'll have to fight with the spring loaded mechanism but they do work. One thing I have noticed is that it seems the internal fan either doesn't run or runs very slowly when docked. I hear it spin up quickly if I pull the S2 from the dock to continue a gaming session. I haven't investigated what it will do if I leave it connected to an extension cable and continue to play. Only verified that it would go to TV mode.
Pretty sure I tried that and only the bottom one worked for video. Can you get video out from the top USB-C port of the Switch 2 or just the bottom port?
Damn, I was hoping you could get video out of the top USB-C port as well, I'm trying to get an extension cable and the JSAUX external fan so I can play "docked" with the extra fan for better coolingPretty sure I tried that and only the bottom one worked for video.
I don't know how well the back of the Switch transfers heat yet but you might be able to go passive and simply place the Switch on a large aluminum heat sink. Testing would certainly be needed. It probably wouldn't take a lot to 3d print something that the Switch could sit in with a fan that directs air in the proper location either.Damn, I was hoping you could get video out of the top USB-C port as well, I'm trying to get an extension cable and the JSAUX external fan so I can play "docked" with the extra fan for better cooling

Oh yeah that's just cooling the back. If you want a fan you should look for something that pushes the air through the Switch like the Nintendo dock. That isn't going to do anymore than a block of aluminum and maybe even worse since it will only be moving air (a terrible heat conductor) over a small section of the back.https://jsaux.com/products/cooling-fans-for-switch-2
That's the fan I was looking at. I used one for the steam deck LCD and it helped quite a bit. An aluminum heat sink may work as well.
