There are a few different 3rd party battery solutions available for the 3DS now.
I'd like to compare the specifications of each to determine which are the better options.

Some of them replace the stock 1300mAh battery of the 3DS and others work along side it.

Power-Pak.jpg

Nyko Power Pak+
???mAh. The website doesn't seem to list the capacity of the battery as a number.
It simply says it has double the capacity of the stock battery.
I believe this one replaces the stock battery, so that would be 2x1300mAh
Total of 2600mAh.

Wrist-Charger.jpg

Universal Gadget Wrist Charger
1500mAh
Works along side the 3DS battery, so that's 1300mAh original plus 1500mAh from this device.
Total of 2800mAh.

Hyperkin-Battery-Pack.jpg

Hyperkin Battery Pack
1800mAh according to the packaging, but the actual battery itself seems to have 1300mAh printed on it.
Lets give them the benefit of the doubt and work with the higher figure.
This one looks like it replaces the stock battery, so we just get whatever its capacity is.
Total of 1800mAh if the packaging is to be believed.

Anyone know of any other 3rd party battery solutions available?

Sorry, but that wrist charger does not look very fashionable.. Looks like whoever is wearing it is chained to their 3DS..
Charging your 3DS, prisoner style! YEAH!

The wrist one is kind of amusing but I can see it's use for situations like long travel. I don't really like the idea of having to expand the size of the DS and the only situation i'd need more battery in is travelling

I agree that the wrist band doesn't look very fashionable, but it seems like a very useful piece of technology.
Also, their usage could be stacked if you had more than one of them.

Image the ultimate battery solution:
Nyko Power Pak+ installed, and then two of the wrist bands on each wrist.
2600+(4x1500) = 8600mAh

2 for each wrist and i can call it a bowser costume

nyko power pack seems like the best deal

I'll wait for a little while longer, waiting for a few reviews or something for 3DS battery alternatives before purchasing one. Though, that arm strap one is...interesting, to say the very least..

Nintendo 3DS Travel Charging Dock with Rechargeable Internal Battery
2000mAh
The extra battery is built into the charger, and it comes with a USB cable. I really like this one because I won’t have to change the back casing of the 3DS and it can still be placed onto the charger that was included with the system. I would love to be able to use this along with Nyko’s battery, but it’s just too bad that Nyko needs its own proprietary charging dock. Works alongside the 3DS battery, so that's 1300mAh original plus 2000mAh from this device.
Total: of 3300mAh.

1800mAh 3.7V Rechargeable Battery Pack for 3DS
1800mAh
This is a true higher capacity replacement battery for the Nintendo 3DS for a total of 1800mAh. Ideally, I would like to use this along with the Travel Charging Dock, so that’s 1800mAh from this battery pack plus 2000mAh from the Travel Charging Dock.
Total of 3800mAh. I don’t think I’d have any complaints with this.

You can already buy the Nyko PowerPak+ at Best Buy. I got one yesterday for $20 and it does indeed last a long time.

The Nyko Power Pak+ is something I will def be looking into. I plan on getting a 3DS in May after Nintendo gives us DSi-Ware to 3DS transfer and this will be one of my first purchases next to a case. Speaking of which: Can anyone who picked one up tell me if the 3DS can still fit into a case (the pocket sized ones sold at Best Buy and Gamestop/EB) with the extended battery attached?

Hyperkin Battery Pack is not possible. It is not possible to increase mAh without changing battery chemistry and/or increase the physical size.

Most cases are made to fit snuggly to the device. Any shell or addon that increases the thickness usually makes it either a tight fit or not at all.
I had a feeling. I really want to get this as I know I will want to play OoT and Star Fox in 3D 90% of the time. Function or style and protection? A tough decision, for me anyway.

I put my phone and 3DS in my case and was able to put it in my pocket.

All it did was sketched the case. Although that may mean less games in it. :/

I wanna get one of these....but I think I'll wait until Nintendo releases a 2200 mAh battery for it in a couple of months....

Nintendo has never released a replacement battery for as long as I can remember. They might be forced to, but as people have already said, they battery would have to be bigger which would change the dimensions of the 3DS. They would completly alienate old users who can't get the new battery or have older accessories (cases, original dock, etc.).
