I dont think so.
Because the japanese and the european version are coming next month and the american comes in 2 month(or so)
It would be stupid for me to update because of the 3DS XL.
But it seems Nintendo started to update its firmware every month.

The irony of the above post is astounding lmao. On topic, nintendo is pushing firmware update more frequently now, so we really don't know. What we do know, is scds2 normally can have a fix in less then a day, so if you use that type of flashcard, it will still work

I'm gonna guess that Flashcards wont work at first on the 3DS XL. No logic behind my guess, just taking my 50/50 shot at being correct/wrong.

Since there are nothing different between both except physical shape and both will run the same software, then they both will have the same updates at the same time so as long as the firmware of the 3DS allows it then the XL would allow it too. That's the logic I have in mind.

Seeing that the 3DS XL uses the same software as 3DS,

once the 3DS flashcart gets fixed, the 3DS XL should too.

Or maybe it'll be like a DSi + DSi XL scenario.

honestly i think if nintendo could have blocked cards in any practile way and retained back compatiblity they would have done it already
nintendo should be getting the head out ots ass anyhow and worrying about their poor design decisions instead of block flashcarts that only play last gen games
what are people supposed to do that want 2nd analog? buy another pos even bulkier adapter for the 3ds xl i guess

Actually, it is the other way around. AFAIK, both the 3DS and 3DS XL have no software changes at all.

As long as the 3DS has DS-Mode, DS-Flashcards will always run.
To retain compatibility Nintendo can´t fix the DS-Mode security.

If they do the same thing with the 3DS XL as they did with the DSi XL, that is just make a bigger 3DS, but use the same software.
Then it's most likely that flashcards will work or will be easily updated to work on the 3DS XL.

But that is purely speculation since it hasn't been released yet.

Pretty sure it uses the same firmware. Probably comes with 4.2.0 firmware.
