Misc 3DS XL doesn't detect a specific Wi-Fi

Hey guys, long time lurker here.

I got a 3DS XL last week and so far no issues whatsoever.
I could connect to any Wi-Fi network (secured or not) without any kind of problem until I tried connecting to my school's Wi-Fi, which my 3DS can't pick up even under the "hotspots/routers".
Which is weird since my girlfriend's cellphone has 100% signal and can connect to it only inserting the password, so it's not those kind of networks that I have to login on the browser.
I also tried manually inserting the SSID and the password to no avail.

Have any of you experienced this and/or know what I must do in order to connect to it?

PS: Kind of off-topic, but I ordered a R4i Gold 3DS flashcard from Digitopz and from what I've read it should work okay and the store seems legit, anyone bought anything from them before?

Are you trying to connect from the 3DS's system settings or a 3DS game?

If you're trying to connect from within a DS game, you're stuck to WEP or no security, so a DS game will show less networks than a 3DS game or the 3DS's settings.

From the System Settings. I got told that probably my school's network is 802.11n only, and apparently that means there's no way for a 3DS to connect to it.
