Let's say a 3ds is bricked. And I disconnect a screen. When powered on, will it stay on? Or it will shut down like on ofw?

I know that it needs both backlights. I'm asking if the situation is different for a brickd 3ds.

In this console the blue led stays on (black screen) even if the bottom screen is disconnected. And yes, the wifi module is good. I'm trying to find out if it's a hardware problem or if it is bricked,

Counterpoint: let's not! :glare:

"Bricked" used to mean a console was literally useful for nothing but a brick and wouldn't turn on or respond in the slightest. If you are using the word "bricked" to refer to a specific failure mode, then please clarify.

A lot of the time people refer to a "bricked" console that can still be recovered with some difficulty using an ntrboot flashcart. The closest thing to a real unrecoverable "brick" is a bluescreen bootrom error – and even that is better referred to as a "bluescreen bootrom error" rather than a "brick".

I've read that critique regarding bricked devices from you often enough over the years and never commented on it. The crusade against this short word is incomprehensible and does not help anybody. :)
You don't have the absolute sovereignty of interpretation for the word brick. Like it or not: It is casually used to describe failures making a device useless pretty much everywhere. Nitpicking does not matter the slightest: Who cares if there is some "functionality" left, which a literal brick would not have (LED on or error message and nothing else)? :)
Since people, who are seeking help, are not always able to clarify why their device does not work on their own, they need help narrowing down the possibilities. The description "it is bricked" is understandable and an appropriate general description. It just means unusable -- for whatever hard- and/or software reasons) :)

At least in my opinion criticizing people for the way they ask for help while clearly showing no intention to help is much worse than an incomplete description and/or using expressions not passing a nitpicking test. :)

As far as I know the abrupt shutdown is forced very early on when missing an essential component. Custom firmware does not change this. I've never heard of a 3DS turning on with missing backlight. It should probably require hardware modification just like those strange "Game Boy Macro" mods done to DS Lite consoles.

Did you try ntrboot into GodMode9? If the hardware is okay this should work regardless of any software damage. That is the easiest way of ruling out software related problems. Diagnosing hardware is a lot harder due to missing fault tolerance and missing error reporting.

Everywhere I've seen the word "Bricked" was reffering to a software error. Either the user did something stupid or the memory got corrupted. It's not like if you broke the charging port of the console, it will be bricked. But that's not important.

KleinesSInchen, thank you for the info. That's exactly what i wanted to know.

I've removed the motherboard. the emmc underfill is kind of brown. flux on the gyro ic and on the yamaha ic. Don't know why. B button contact melted. I think the pmic was reflowed.
I powered the board with nothing connected and the led goes off after a few seconds . YAY!
I connected only the top screen and the led stays on. Found the fault: the top screen.
I conencted everything except the top screen and the console boots.
Time to search for a top screen, white middle frame and a chargind port.
