Hardware 3DS Xl better than 3DS?

Read some Iwata asks and you'll see that they used a much higher quality resin for the 3DS to avoid the problem and if you take a look at the 3DS you'll see that it's much beefier around the hinge area this time. The hinge issue was a real issue that not only happened to kids, I've replaced housing on two of my friends DS lite's because of it. Some people just don't take enough care of their systems, Nintendo did what they could to prevent it, a different plastic simply wouldn't cut it if the top screen was too tight.

They've dropped that thing in several tests to make sure that it's doesn't break. Making the hinge slightly looser is just taking it one step further to avoid the problem completely. I personally never had any issues with loose hinges at all with my systems.

Looks like it worked for them too, I just did a quick search and I can't find a single 3DS with a cracked hinge on the web.

I've owned a ds fat/lite/3ds and 3dsXL, its not like I am unfamiliar with the build of each.
I agree it certainly reduces the likelyhood of the cracking. I dont agree they were unable to make it sufficiently strong without loosening it, perhaps they didnt want the slight additional cost.

There may be few/no results for cracked hinges, there are an aweful lot for people being displeased by the looseness however.

You can disagree that its a bad issue, but really cant dismiss it.

The XL dpad is great, it's the same as the DSi one iirc, it's large and slightly clicky.

- warmer screens (this is just my preference but I prefer the original cooler ones) Actually playing a little bit with the XL and going back to the original makes the standard 3DS 's screens look really blue, almost purple even because of how your eyes adjust.
.
I had a similar experience when upgrading to a DS lite after having been using a Ds phat for a significant amount of time.

Despite the nicer things about the 3DSxL I wouldn't trade in my original 3DS due to it being the Zelda emblem which could yield a decent resale value in the end.

I have a 3ds without XL,i wanted to buy the 3ds xl, but the only thing i am bothered with is,its Heavyier it would become a ploblem to take it to the airplane

It is. Though, I'm not too crazy on the XL dpad altogether. It really could be better.
For as big as the XL is, they sure put a small D-pad on it. I wish they'd put a full sized one like on the original DS which is more or less the same size as NES/SNES D-pads instead of the smaller one that's closer to the size of a Wii Remote D-Pad.

Maybe there wasn't room internally or something, I dunno, but I was surprised when saw it for the first time and it was so small. (that's what she said)

ROFL, I have an XL and it treated me fine on my plane ride last year, better than my old small 3DS which I now sold. No problems with the weight either, no clue why you would think that would be a problem.

The regular 3DS is superior IMO. Smaller, gloss finish, clicky buttons etc.

Not gonna argue with size or gloss since that's a matter of preference, but seriously, the buttons are worse than the XL's in just about every way. The material feels uncomfy, the triggers are sharp and hurt your hands (especially in games like Kid Icarus and Zelda, and the dpad is stiff, sharp, and hurts your hands.

Thats fine, i mean its all preference. I love the clicky buttons. The shoulder buttons leave something to be desired, and the D pad is poor.

Telescoping stylus are stupid. Stylus placement is also more easily accessed.

3DS XL is still very portable, it fits in my pocket just fine. Better battery life is really a big deal for a portable as well.

The XL comes with double size memory card also I believe.

3D slider is also improved as it clicks in to position in the off position and drops that useless and annoying 3D LED.

I find the Dpad to be very good. DS phat dpad was the worst ds dpad. Physically my favorite DS is the DSiXL due to the volume levels, volume buttons, gameplay buttons feel, batterylife, screen size.

Number one complaint about the 3DS XL is the volume level both through the speaker and the headphones. It's pretty terrible. I heard the 3DS is just as bad.

(I have owned every DS model except Dsi and 3DS but have had hands on with those models)

I've thought about getting an XL this week through Target ($159.99 for all versions, including the Pikachu LE). The only thing that's preventing me from getting one and then selling my older 3DS is the speakers/volume. Is it really that bad?

Off-topic, but how much would a regular 3DS that is in decent condition go for nowadays?
