Believe it, the 3DS will be targeting hardcore gamers. This was the battlecry of Nintendo President Satoru Iwata as he talked to Nikkei. According to him, they are planning on working closely with developers to "expand into elaborate games." All for, yes, you, serious gamer.
Working close with devs? Now that is promising stuff.
While he admits that most of the DS line-up of games have been for non-game players, he remains firm in his belief that the steps they took to move the graphics and gameplay forward will be changing this characterization soon.
Nice touch, less N64 and more GC. Not that N64 is bad, it's just...not aging too well. GBA -> SNES, DS -> N64, 3DS -> Gamecube. Well, not fully accurate, it's just safe to say.
And they're well on their way with that, too, as they've already confirmed that a Metal Gear Solid 3D title will be coming, as well as a Resident Evil game. Hard core.
By that statement, I'm guessing the hardcore definition is related to Rated M, and more 'critical' games where you interact more as well as survival-related. That and casuals are easier to get into (it is casual after all), not saying hardcores don't do that, but compare Pacman with the mechanics of, let's say, Metal Slug. Always with the pointless debates. Why can't you people just appreciate these damn games?
