But I think it won't be anything too bad.

There should be some non-hardcore games too(like mario for example)
I'm confused by this.
Are you seriously trying to say that hardcore gamers don't play Mario?
Because that's the biggest load of bullshit I've ever heard.
Or do you mean like, gore and stuff?
Well the people who are most vocal about being 'hardcore' gamers only play games with head shots.

My definition of a 'hardcore' gamer is someone who can appreciate the quality of a game regardless of the content/style. They would have Pokemon and GTA next to each other on the shelf and not be ashamed to admit playing either.

i like the Direction their going with the 3DS.

im just hoping that they don't forget the Casuals too.

why might you ask i hope that? well, the Girls at my School and my girl Friend won't even go Near an X360 or Ps3 but they have a DS and a Wii.

who doesn't want a Gamer Girl Friend even if she's just a Casual gamer!

If Nintendo is trying to take back hardcore gaming with this new handheld system after a "casual" system, could it be possible that Nintendo may do this same approach with their next home console?
i sure as hell hope so...as long as it's not in 3D

This.
Also, even the Xbox slash PS3 "i'm a hardc0re gam3r d00d" kiddies (not talking about all Xboxers/PS3ers here, just the asshole-type) get nostalgia from older Mario games.
Even though they brush them away now, they generally admit to playing them at some point.
I have such a mate. I always make fun of him! And then he gets angry!!! Sigh... Good times... Good times...

This casual vs hardcore bullshit pisses me off to no end. Each group shitting on the other because of their choice of games and play style. "Hardcore" gamers being most guilty of this.

Any casual game can be played hardcore, and vice versa. Example:

Tetris is a casual game, but you can make your own "hardcore mode" by striving to only clear lines with a Tetris.

Halo 3 can be casual just by playing the "easy" modes.

There is nothing hardcore about being so obsessed with video games that you gain no fun in playing them (MW2 Kill Ratio whores, kill streak whores, gamescore whores) and even going so far as to make sure no one else is enjoying the game either (spawn camping, prone kills, and especially lag switching)

Believe it, the 3DS will be targeting hardcore gamers. This was the battlecry of Nintendo President Satoru Iwata as he talked to Nikkei. According to him, they are planning on working closely with developers to "expand into elaborate games." All for, yes, you, serious gamer.
Working close with devs? Now that is promising stuff.

While he admits that most of the DS line-up of games have been for non-game players, he remains firm in his belief that the steps they took to move the graphics and gameplay forward will be changing this characterization soon.
Nice touch, less N64 and more GC. Not that N64 is bad, it's just...not aging too well. GBA -> SNES, DS -> N64, 3DS -> Gamecube. Well, not fully accurate, it's just safe to say.

And they're well on their way with that, too, as they've already confirmed that a Metal Gear Solid 3D title will be coming, as well as a Resident Evil game. Hard core.

By that statement, I'm guessing the hardcore definition is related to Rated M, and more 'critical' games where you interact more as well as survival-related. That and casuals are easier to get into (it is casual after all), not saying hardcores don't do that, but compare Pacman with the mechanics of, let's say, Metal Slug. Always with the pointless debates. Why can't you people just appreciate these damn games?

that's why i hate shooters MP there's too many cheap tricks peeps use to win.

Really depends what they mean by hardcore. Frequently it seems to mean 15 year olds who won't play anything without space marines in it.

hardcore yes but adult... we didnt get too many action and adventure games on the ds and possibly this will really help (they were either not there or not varied)
the other issue was sports games which i hope is included
atleast we will see more interesting titles than so called shovelware
