Anybody tested what can be done with the new 3DS web browser? Buffer overflow etc. stuff?

Another interesting thing would be to check if controls can be parsed (javascript?) to make some web based games.

Can you browse the web in an almost mormal fashion or is rich content not really an option ?

My kid really fancies hitting his pokemon websites if I get him a new 3DS.

Well... I'm kinda disappointed with the browser so far...

One of the websites I use every day is not even accessable. "the website this links refers to blah blah bleh..."
The browser has flash... yeah it has... BUT Youtube says: update your f*ckin' flashplayer... Youtube mobile doesn't even show the update flashplayer thingy...

So well... it's kinda useless... it's faster than the DSi browser but that's it actually...
Even my cellphone can play youtube stuff or the website I mentioned above so no need for it on 3DS, sadly.

I'd rather see a messaging application for ICQ and stuff or skype on the eShop anyway but I guess that won't ever happen. xD So it's still my cellphone.

Well, the browser isn't meant for everyday browsing! It's there as a quality of life app for people who want to check out a FAQ for a game they are playing! What do you want, a desktop replacement? I think Nintendo did well with the browser. It's decent, it gets the job done. They also added the ability to upload JPG pictures directly to the browser as well as download pictures. You can also view the MPO files on ED Porch in 3D! If we get Youtube it'll probably be as it's own app, and honestly, I'm not too worried about it, it'll come when it comes.

It's actually pretty easy to crash the browser. However, we don't know if it's sandboxed (most likely). Here's a simple way to crash the browser (don't know if it actually does anything else though), just create test.html on your computer and host it somewhere.

CODE

var i = 0;
var str = "x";
while(i++ < 32){ // 2^32 length
ÂÂÂÂ str += str;
}
window.alert(str);

i want to watch pornography and other streaming media on my 3ds, please talented hackers, make this happen! thanks in advance

That html code seems like the same type of crash you get when playing ridge racer.......prolly useless, if it wasn't nintendo would have delayed the update bc of ridge racer bug............

Edit: i made a webs site with that html code, i guess it is fun to crash your friends 3ds.....heh........anyways here: http://3dsexploit.webs.com

I just got inspired to create 3DS friendly websites! The problem is I don't know what sort of content I should put on it? Gaming news, anime, manga...?

BTW for manga fans you can use Mobile Mangafox

work's like a charm.

It creates popups and uh, increments str. I don't know what math ops do to strings in Javascript.

I'll start creating a simple portal for myself (I'll share the link later)

But yeah I'm thinking of just creating a simple anime, manga and gaming news website for the 3DS.

The browser is simple, but pretty nice. No youtube yet, but i've been able to check various forums (as a matter of fact im doing this on mine right now), facebook (mobile) and mangafox (mobile) with very little delay/lag.

Simple, clean stuff will work, but this puppy doesnt have flash, from wut i can tell.

The browser works and can do some decent things, but it really isn't all that amazing. No flash and no HTML5 make it pathetic. No tabbed browsing/new windows, and with the lack of multi-touch, a horribly limiting zoom (although they could have found a work-around, but I guess that was too much trouble).

It can run javascript though (kind of obvious). Someone has already started with web-based apps for the 3DS:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOdBgTShd3k

You can try it out on your 3DS by pointing the browser to http://3ds.andysmith.co.uk/jFox.html

It's functional, but nothing amazing. I don't think GBATemp likes linking to other sites (too late, I guess) so just in case, I won't link to the interview with the guy who made this (Andy Smith. Duh), but the guy said that the D-Pad and A button are fully functional in the browser, hence why this was possible, but that it uses the scrolling function of the D-Pad to act as a control for the game, and therefore can't use the top screen (you can try, but it'll move to the bottom screen as soon as you press the D-Pad). Something like that, anyway. He also said that so far, sound isn't possible, what with the lack of Flash and HTML5.

Other than that, I don't really care. I'd much rather use my iPhone or a computer. The 3DS browser seems slow, clunky and fairly featureless to me.
