Misc 3DS Update question

Right now i am on 4.3 firmware version and i still don't wanna update.
Can i still use internet 3DS features?
Like playing online,spotpass,streetpass etc. but not to update the system?
And does the system automatically update itself when i make a connection?

You can do anything that you could normally do except visit the Eshop.

Umm, no. All works fine except E-shop. Why don't you wanna update anyway?

Probably has one of the flash carts that doesn't have updates for anything past 4.3.x yet.
