Hello, I have a question about sd cards, why does it always seem like it is more likely to get a corrupt or broken sd card if it is used with a cfw 3ds? Should I be worried about my sd becoming broken/corrupted?

Just a guess: Somebody having installed CFW is more likely to excessively write to SD (installing backed up cartridges or -- sadly -- illegal downloads).

I would worry more about SD corruption on an unmodified 3DS: Backing up saves in decrypted form is not possible and Anti-Savegame restore will wreak havoc when restoring a full SD backup.

SD cards are -- in my experience -- not the most reliable storage media. As GBAtemp's Backup Reminder, I want to emphasize the importance of regularly copying important data (of course not only on 3DS; there is far more important data elsewhere).
At the very least run Checkpoint/JKSM from time to time and store decrypted backups of important saves in multiple locations. Same for NAND images. A full SD backup isn't bad either -- though not strictly needed because games can be reinstalled.

Good luck and have fun!

Ok! Thank you, but say i were to get a larger sd card, i would have to copy the files off the sd card to my tablet remove the sd and copy the stuff off the tablet to the new sd, would there be any problem with this process other than it taking a while?:rolleyes::gun: :shit:

There are sometime errors on the card. But it is not because cfw, its of wrong handeling the SD Card. The more often u unplug or plug it in somewhere, from 3ds to pc and backwards. The more bigger is the possibility, for example u unplug the card to early from the system, but still write procceses are going on. This results in corrupt files and filesystem. Therefor normaly they should be ejected by the System first, or all apps with access to the card should be closed first. Then there could also fileerrors because of corrupt download or moving to the card. There are a lot of possibilitys what cause errors like also not plugin correctly or malfunction of the cardreader.

If the card stays insert, the chance that is going corrupt in minimal against permanently moving it around.

There a lot of stores where you can purchase a card, in the electronic market or online. I recommend SDcards from Sandisk.

But dont search on ebay for cheapest price, because its likely u get a fakecard with maby described 128gb but really only 16gb available.

There is no Problem from copying to tablet and backwards. Best make a base sdcard with all necesarry stuff without games and back it up. Games can easy be reinstalled every time.

If u copy a few gb thats going fast, instead copying maybe 56 gb and they are lot of small files.

  • First: The cards are made to be written and reared, period.
  • Second: Flash memory (yes, the SD have a flash inside) are CONSUMABLES, so they will decrease they capacity and render inoperable after some thousands of write cycles there is nothing you can do to avoid it.
  • Third: CFW doesn't write more than OFW, however, if you trend to remove and install more games than other, you put your card on more distress.
  • Fourth: unless we are talking about Nintendo Switch OFW and ExFAT normally there is no corruption from CFW/OFW

so, CFW do not corrupt cards, people corrupt cards :D

you could corrupt your sd card if you take it away from the console much times, if you write much to it... but just make backups.
