question... i've been trying to find the solution to this but i can't seem to find it... i joined the gateway bandwagon a while ago and i've read almost every guide, and step by step directions but i have upgraded my firmware for the red card to the most recent one and i have back up-ed my sysNAND but i constantly been having a problem where once i press L to get to the Gateway menu and i press to boot gateway mode the screen turns black and then im back at the home menu but i can't see the red card or any of my games. i have used the 3ds sd imager to put pokemon y .3dz and mario tennis .3dz on my microsd. So i was looking around to see that the only way to check if ur in gateway mode is to go to system profile and see if the GW is before your system number right? cause i have tried this web exploit multiple times and it has worked for me but i can't get mine to boot into gateway mode PLEASE any advice would be greatly appreciated as i am stuck thinking maybe my red card is bad? or am i tripping cause i did ask to upgrade the red card and all that stuff went smoothly. I didn't set up emunand yet as i wanted to only play games by myself offline. Please help would be greatly appreciated. oh and i tried doing classic mode also and that just brings it back to the home menu but still no GW in front of the version system. So basically mine isn't booting to gateway mode after i press it on the menu... please help.

oh and i putting the gateway red card in the slot as im doing all of the loading of the menu and all that (if that matters)

Did you press the Select button after booting into Gateway mode? The multi-rom feature should work in GW mode even without formatting emuNAND. Also, for the "GW3D" to appear next to your firmware number, you'll need to "Format emuNAND" in the Gateway Menu. Back up all the stuff in your 3DS's BIG SD card to your PC before formatting emuNAND. After you Format emuNAND, you can now boot into emuNAND through Gateway mode and you'll have the "GW3D" next to the firmware number. Oh, and if you exit out of System Settings, the console will restart and send you back to sysNAND and you have to re-launch the exploit again.

After all that's done, you can put back all the stuff you backed up from the 3DS's BIG SD card.

Yes, I was using Red Card.

Try updating to the newer launcher.dat (Gateway 3.0.1), re-launch the exploit, and try and boot into Gateway Mode. If it still can't read your Gateway red card, you might have a faulty one.

Weirdly enough, I've had zero problems running the browser exploit. I didn't clear cookies, cache or anything, it just worked.

Well, I'm guess it's because you don't use the 3DS internet browser a lot and the only site you went to the most is "http://go.gateway-3ds.com". So maybe that is why there's the lack of cookies to eatdelete. Well, you don't have to worry about using the internet exploit anymore since GW's new update, Gateway 3.0.1, now has the Downgrade function working and the packs available to downgrade your 3DS to below v4.5 and use the DS Profile Exploit which doesn't require the internet. But you have to be using the classic old 3DS/3DS XL. 2DS is not supported for downgrading yet, but I'm sure GW is working on some sort of solution.

I'm just worried that if I do downgrade, it won't be able to read 6.x encrypted saves on my retail carts anymore.

Then, you don't have to downgrade. I mean, the new update already has emuNAND and all that lovely stuff for v5.X-9.2. And there are already some ways to re-launch the exploit offline like this one. So you're fine where you are.

The select button was the answer.. thanks LinkmstrYT

couple more question so i got multiple roms now on my microsd but whats the deal with saves? and if you could help maybe show me how .3ds saves differ from .3dz saves. oh and if its like a one game one save situtation where i would have to get the sav file from my sd card and move it to my comp? just to play another rom and save it on my sd? or is it a situation where i can have one game one save for everything.. oh and i have super smash bros that i have the retail cartridge for with all my chars... so if i use gateway classic it will boot up where all my characters and stuff will be playable? Do i have to press select or something to use gateway classic? how would you know that ur in that mode?

or if this was asked my many ppl already sorry, i did try to look it up on the search engine.. like a game managing/saving faq thread or sticky but there is none any clarification would be appreciated

oh and if you do lets say wanna play a game that requires title updates and stuff i would eventually need to do the whole emunand process? can i update that without doing emunand? i don't mind doing it, as i already saved my nand.bin file and read about the process like a million times with the guides. just wondering cause pokemon x and y and mario kart, smash all require title updates. THANKS

  • For the question about .3ds and .3dz saves, .3dz roms have a header put in place to use for online play and once the game is saved, a .sav file is created in the Big SD Card with the binary header. Because of that, you can't share saves unless you provide your binary header (extracted with ROM Cleaner). More info here.
  • After you exit the game, or turn off your 3DS, Gateway puts the save file as .sav into your 3DS's Big SD Card. That way, you don't lose progress of the game when you switch to another game. When you load the game again, it'll use the same .sav file that it backed up in the Big SD Card. You can backup these saves as much as you want.
  • To enter Classic Mode, you must go to the Gateway Menu and choose "Classic Mode". After that, you can play your Smash Bros. retail cartridge like normal.
  • Regarding game updates, I'm not sure if they work in Classic Mode for games like Smash Bros. I need someone to confirm for me if they work or not.

well would i need emunand to get my roms to be able to update their titles? and stuff? i don't wanna accicentally update my sysNAND by accident hahaha because it tells me to open the eshop and stuff i believe and isn't that whole thingy related to emunand? to get the most recent releases? yeah if anyone knows i would appreciate the info

To get the updates, you will need to use emuNAND. You can either get them from the eShop or .cia files. Where the .cia files are, I can't link them here but it does come from a place that has "3ds" and "iso". You'll need devmenu to install .cia files.
